Turkeys all sound delicious! Congrats on those eggs Aurora. Cant believe the girls are laying!

Friend called...her dog tore out her hens tail feathers. Will they grow back? Or is she doomed to be tailess this season until her next molt?

It depends on whether they are broken off or completely pulled out. Broken off will come back next molt. Pulled out will grow back before the next molt.

On a side note it is a defensive mechanism for birds to release their feathers in order to facilitate escape leaving the "predator" with a mouthful or handful of feathers. They feel no pain when they release their feathers. But really, a turkey with no tail feathers just does not look right.

She sent me a picture. It's a BR. No tail makes her look just like a football! Thanks R2elk....hopefully poor thing will grow some back. Luckily that's the only injury. Shes a lucky bird.

We've got freezing rain here today. We're stuck home since it's too icy to go anywhere. Good thing it wasn't nasty like this for Black Friday!

I'll take a ft of snow instead of freezing rain any day
although we are supposed to get rain changing to snow sunday afternoon. But i should be home by 1:30pm Sunday and don't have to go anywhere until Monday at 6 pm.

Lucky duck! It is cold and rainy here today. It was sposed stop by lunch... newp. Still rainin. Still cold. It is turkey and wild rice soup for dinner tonight here. . Paul is out on the couch for the count. He was gonna butcher two hogs today. Nope. Then mebbe tomorrow. Nope too wet. Now he says maybe monday. Heck i am game so long as my fingers dont turn to icecicles.

This morning started out with a low of 38°F and rain. Sometime when I wasn't looking the temperature started dropping and it started snowing. It got down to 30°F and is now back up to 32°F with an accumulation of white that is an inch deep.
