A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well the new GM at the coop is my problem. They bought 6 ton of Non-GMO whole roasted soy for my feed blends, then someone failed to place the order for the GMO soy and the guys ran out. So they just used up mine and then the GM wanted me to make up his loss because they sold the feed to the other guys at regular price. Now he doesn't do Non-GMO. Got another feed store that says he's interested but just can't get any forward motion out of him.
Some people are idiot's..... my feed store kind of has to be nice to me..... I work for them in another department. Lol
Actually trying to get away from GMOs was one of my motivations to work up my own mix.... my feed is mostly wheat, and local when I can get it

I use Fertrell products in my feed and as a result, have access to their nutritionists. That's where almost all of my blends have come from. I also have the polyface recipes. I'm still reading Jeff's book and find myself going back and asking, "well you said this in your book, but you didn't do that in this recipe... why?" Then he'll patiently explain it to me and as I read further, the same answer is in the book... :lau I need to make notes with questions and just keep reading.

Holy shapoopie! I don’t know that I’m ready for that one. I might just have to dig a line from the house out to the main perimeter fence and use grid power. Would it be a serious mistake to run an e-fence wire above the barbed wire fence and energize that wire (NOT including the barbed wire fence)? I’m hoping to do that in any case, to scab off of for my temporary paddocks.. I’m just using a temporary ground for now. It’s working, but it’s not a permanent solution.

I don't know. I've pretty much learned what little I know about electric fencing from Premier 1. Do read their safety bulletins, there is a particular type of energizer that can and has caused fires with their fencing.

ETA: I think it had to do with continuous power vice pulse if I remember. Someone bought their fence and got the energizer off amazon, wound up burning his barn down.

There are not any dealers near me that carry the furtrell brand...... I have eye balled it on line many times but the shipping always stops me dead In my tracks.... my feed store deals with ranchway and they mix up a premix to the stores specifications that I have access to. I will have to look into the polyface recipes.... you have given me something to ponder

Oh yes, you’re right— that’s continuous power that has the fire issues. I’m not sure that’s even a thing any more for agricultural use...

The issue with barbed wire is more to do with getting livestock or wildlife tangled up, panicking, unable to escape... not a nice picture. This typically happens because someone has energized their actual barbed wire, though. It’s the same thing you can get with poultry netting if a bird gets tangled up in it. I’m thinking as long as it’s only one wire on top, not connected to the barbed wire, it’s probably not a problem, but then I’ve never done it, so...
