In all fairness, the teens where @Auroradream26 lives can be really bone chilling because of the humidity there. When I lived in PA, the lowest temperature that I saw was -6°F and it felt worse than any -20°F that I have experienced here.
I suppose you get the worst because of lower temps and high humidity.
thats the truthGot that right R2elk! Humidity is the issue!
I have had -17°F so far this winter and no signs of frostbite yet.thats the truth
0f sunday low, 34 tue with rain through wed morning....ice skating rink but chickens were fine... dropped to 14 last night and 2/8 boys waddles are frostbitten...![]()
I usually go all winter .. -20...until freezing rain hits in the early spring before frostbite on the roos .. usually it is 100% humidity and just below freezing when they get itI have had -17°F so far this winter and no signs of frostbite yet.
So how long will Pebbles be in the broody cage with the chicks? Will you let her raise them? Just wondering how all that works. I sure miss out on fun stuff like that here at the convent. I'm just grateful I dont live near any of you. Turkeys would take over my world. I'm already hen pecked enough!!
Aurora....any Pencilled poults yet??
I have frozen combs and wattles enough to share with those missing them this year....
Most of my feeders look as if I have vampire chickens there is so much frozen dried blood on them.... I am really not liking this winter at all.
Of course, when those sweltering 75-80 degree days hit I will be longing for this.
