Well expecting my first turkey eggs to hatch fri. Only 2 but a start.

Had to put down a bourbon hen. Last one of the first bourbon I got. Had been getting some large eggs in the pen. There was a soft shell tonight. She had a prolapse and intestines were hanging out.

I did see a snake today about a 5 ft black snake on the shed where the mower is kept. Hes still alive for awhile.

Missed the rain. So got some more green beans and 8 rows of sweet corn in the garden today.

So. Sister left us today for the rainbow bird bridge. We have had her two years and she was layin when we got her. So that puts her at at least three. She was a bb bronze for those that haven’t heard me say that about her. So she did live a good long time for what she was. I am not sure if she was dust bathin and got flipped over again (she did this this past fall) or just died and flipped somehow. But she was on her back. I sure will miss her silly antics when she wanted attention or was lookin for treats and her loud and proud hollarin at all the dangers afoot. But i kinda knew it would soon have been time anyway for her to go. She has been movin a lot slower the last few weeks. So it is OK that she left toodlin round and happy and that we didnt have to help her along i think.

Now.... i need lapper lessons lol! Welp. Maybe not true lapper lessons but ones that will be silly and goofy kinda almost like @memphis daisy and annie without needin be in my lap. I am not sure i could DO another true lap animal up the hill viein for attentions. But it was nice when sister wanted things from us and would let us rub her nearly every day. . Paul works at southern states three days a week.... they are gettin poults in next week. Blue slates, burbon reds and royal palms. I wasnt gonna get any because we have the snake sittin eggs... but i know she will not let me near anything that hatched without me losin a lotta blood. Lol! My bronze and rp hens will most likely go broody too but they will be out for blood too if last year was any indication. So i think i will have him bring me some pouts to uhm train correctly.... br and bs i do believe.

We have week and half old meat birds and they might do ok with those for a bit. But.. @R2elk, @duluthralphie, @rjohns39.... will they be ok in with those (i am thinkin blackhead)? Or is that only a possible problem once they hit the soil ground? They are in a brooder wagon right now with no access to soil. I know how blackhead works just not sure when it can be passed. My googlefu and books don’t tell me that part. :/

I really like those little red belly racer snakes lol. They're so little! I haven't found one to show my kids yet though.

In florida there were orange bellied black snakes snakes. They were so cute and just weird lookin. Their bellies were bright bright orange and they had an orange ring round their necks. They were only bout the roumdness of a pencil and got up to a foot long is all. But those jokers could move.

I cannot WAIT for this muddy mess to dry up so paul can work my garden for me! My hands are itchin to be out there! And to see how well it all does this year from all the poop, composte, hay, straw and mulch we put in it after we pulled everything out in the fall.

Blackhead is soil Bourne. If it's In your soil you will always have it. If possible go to your ascs office. They should be able to tell you if it's a problem in your area

My great grandma let bats nest in most of the barns, along with house and barn swallows. Her house eaves were a mass of house swallow mud nests, all the way around. She had a huge street light in the yard that stayed on at night to attract the bugs in for the bats. Still, it was way out in nowhere so there were more than enough bugs for the swallows and bats plus some for the frogs in the well overflow ( artesian, natural 200 psi out of the ground, has to be capped and with a pressure reducer and still has overflow without any electric) the toads, and everything else, and yet we still get bit by mosquitoes.

My brother lived next door for awhile. He allowed the Barn Swallows to nest in his "barn". When the eggs hatched the parents would sit on the electric wires between our places. When I would go over by there, the little stinkers would dive bomb me.

Do you run chickens and turkeys together now.

No. The turks are enclosed in almost three acres with goats and a calf. The chickens free range but do not go into the fenced part where my turks are. The chickens really don’t get close to the turks either.

Aww, I'm so sorry you lost her. It's always hard but like you said, she lived a nice, long life for her breed. As far as blackhead, if they don't have access to the soul, they should be fine. I brood my turkeys and chickens together and even have soon living together outside too but it's not an issue in my address (at least as far as I know).

Now lapper training is super easy and fun! Spend time with them, hold them, talk to them as often as you can. Using turkey language is a bonus lol. Before you know it, you'll have lappers!

I've found one of them in my garden here. I thought it was pretty cool with the little ring around it's neck. It's amazing how fast those little buggers are! I like little snakes... They don't intimidate me and I'm not afraid to mess with them lol.
