Send them to my barn then! I have the house of mouse up the hill and cannot figure a safe way to rid it of them. Poults and hens roost on the up high places so no traps and i dont want to decon them for fear somethin up there eats them and gets poisoned. ;/
I used to have Light Brahma chickens. Those big old hens would actually go out hunting for mice. of course when the caught one, the chase and fight was on over who would get to eat it. I have not seen any evidence of mice in my coop for many years so assume that the current chickens are also mice eaters.

I used to use DCon in the hay barn and would find dead mice all over the place. I never saw any evidence that the animals eating the dead mice were harmed at all. Of course some idiot got that product banned.

I have some mouse traps for you..

Oh wow i didnt realize that dcon was not made anymore... it has been that long since we have needed mice stuff lol. We have an indoor cat that takes care of anything inside the house.

We just got our power back on after two days. We got 18” of snow here. Pactola Lake got 22”, so lucky us! Rapid City got 3”. I hate them. :tongue Don’t it all look just like a Christmas card?

We do have a generator, so don’t feel too sorry for us. It does the well pump, fridge and a couple outlets. It doesn’t do the router (and anyway we weren’t excited about climbing up on the roof to get the snow off the dish.)

In other news, the birds are bored and the cows are wet and cranky. There were no tornadoes, only mild flooding (for us, anyway), no earthquakes, fires, or hurricanes. So all good there so far. Maybe now we could have ‘not winter’? The snow is melting or at least it’s slowly sinking into itself and disappearing. Now it’s supposed to rain all week. Hopefully not as enthusiastically as it has snowed.

Oh yes, and here are some of my babies before the lights went out.

I put them all together, poults and chicks. They’re getting a bit cramped, though. The feed sack has a hardware cloth armature and a heating pad inside. There’s another one at the other end of the tub.

I think I’m gonna move them in with the 7 older chicks in the growout coop soon. One of the Black poults hopped right out of the tub while I was filling up their water dish (having foolishly left their cover off). He trotted right up to me and I put him back in. None of the Blacks will let me pick them up from the tub (without a chase) so, weird, but good.

18 is a lot of snow for the end of may...
prayers you don't get the rains like a lot of us are getting.. rains almost every day here. I live on a slope, the poultry yard is on a flat spot towards the end of the slope. running water everyday down the slope. :smack

I still am blown away with the snow. 18 inches...unbelievable.

Feedman...hope your ok...between the tornadoes & flooding. Hang in there!

R2elk....is the wild girl still stalking Mr. Picky?
Nope. It appears she was just seeking refuge during the bad weather. I believe that she moved on this morning.

I have a question... I’m gonna have to move my 30+ chicks and poults out very soon. At present there’s only the grow-out coop and it’s occupied by 7 chicks twice their size (but not dino-stage yet and imo nowhere near big enough to go in with the grown-up ladies). I’m thinking the overwhelming numbers of the babies may mitigate any hazing from the kindergarteners, but it’s pretty tricky to take anyone back out once I put them in, let alone some of the tiniest chicks (who are really fast). Anyone have any experience, ideas, SWAGs?
