A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

In my estimation and knowing these birds, the water might be the only issue - for a week or two or three......

Then again, it might rain.

:lau :pop
If something happens to me during the daytime in spring through fall, they are free ranging and have access to water. If something happens during the night, they will run out of both food and water because other than the turkeys, everything else is shut in the coops. The adult turkeys are in the run which they can fly out of if they so desire.

Rjohns...I've never heard of it. Will google.

The Prairie....you do have a lot of exciting things going on! You better post pictures!

R2elk....same thing here...worry about my animals if something happens to me.

Flashpoint...I'm interested in their personalities! Hope they are sweet little lappers!

Same here. No water or food in the coops through.
Would be months before neighbors would notice though. Mower broke Aug 2017 ... June 2018 the neighbors noticed the grass, one knocked on the door when I was out in the poultry yard... Called the house phone and telephone treed looking for my cousin, but found the guy that hunts here. Who remembered the cell number.... I had plowed the neighbors drives and told one the mower was broke, but she drinks too much to remember.

@duluthralphie when do you candle your eggs? I rarely bother before day 14.

If I candle before I put them in the hatcher it’s a miracle..

I never throw out a turkey egg until after day 14. It’s just too hard to tell what’s going on in there.

The exception being a leaking or exploded egg... if I put chicken eggs in on the same day as turkey eggs, they get candles on day 18 when I move the chicken eggs..

Normally, I throw the eggs in the trash around day 35-40...

Good luck on the birds, @The Prairie ..

Took care of poult this morning, went and did a bit of road grading for a few hours, then went to town to get some things. Had a flat on the way. Got that fixed and got back home and decided to mow my yard before going to mow cemetery. Bolts holding hydrostat to frame bracket broke. Got that fixed, just have to put deck back on. Doing nightly chores and find my poults in pen have decided they like the concrete posts are set in better than the granite grit I give them.
On the plus side 2 new ones finally dry

Fred....not sure what to say! I hate days like that!

My poults are getting so big so fast. The penciled is nosey! The mottled is adventurous. They sure have different personalities. That's what's so much fun about turkeys....they all have their own little quirks. Been letting a few of the neighbors come and see them. They need to get used to seeing other people. It's the culture of the neighborhood! No kids yet. Daisy inserts herself between a visitor and the poults. At first I thought she might be protective of the babies....but I think she just wants all the attention! Why am I not surprised?

Good morning all! I just got done feeding everyone and realized that I may have 4 extra penciled toms. That helps reduce the turkey flock before winter BUT it's going to be so hard to part with such beautiful boys! 2 aren't all that pretty but the other two are gorgeous, like Phil with some white accents thrown in :/ If they weren't full siblings to the penciled girls, I'd keep one and user him to breed.

Breeding siblings is the quickest way to bring out hidden recessive genes. This can be either good or bad. Only a test breeding will show what the results will be.
