A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Ok. New question. :he

What is the best way to contain a turkey so it cannot move - I need to check Tommie's legs and put stuff on them. Pretty sure he has scaly legs. (my avatar pic)
I hold it by the lower legs with my left hand while keeping its body shoved up into my armpit so that the wings are held in place by my body and arm. I then use my right hand to do whatever needs done.

Helping hands are not an option here. Another method to control the wings temporarily is to wrap electrical tape around the wings and body securing them in place.

A large towel and strong companion
I use Holm to hold difficult birds still.
That would work if I had that "strong companion". Most of the time - and I do mean MOST of the time - I might not see another human for weeks. (Mail, USP, and FedEx drivers do not count)
I tried that, Holm fought like a banshee when I got the towel around him..

Way too much work..

I can wrap my arms around Tommie - I cannot pick him up any longer. He's too big. I have "guided" him from spot to spot and that hasn't caused an issue. I can pick up Iron and the 2 hens.

Think duct tape might be a bit too much....tape? :lau

I do need to be able to get my hands on his legs!

I don't pick them up. I do this at ground level and usually in a corner. It helps to decrease the struggle if they don't feel open air under them.

Ralphie said to use Dux (Duck) tape to add insult to injury. I like using electrical tape since it is much easier to get back off and doesn't tear as easily as duct tape.

To facilitate matters, have your jar of salve, Vaseline, etc. open and in a reachable position before you start. I release one leg from my left hand and smear on the salve of choice on the free leg with my right hand and repeat with the second leg. The smoother everything goes, the easier the repeat applications will be.

Might to just sit on him lol. I don't know if you have rope or anything, but could you the him up by his feet to a tree branch or something, maybe a low one so that his body mostly is still on the ground for support.

I get them in the coop with a treat like meal worms.... then in a corner, and waller around on the floor attempting R2elks method. Mine are rater wild and never handled and I'm a short old lady so ...... I usually get their legs out from under them and chest on the ground. Lay over them and work on a leg at a time. I have managed to get electrical tape around them and that does work..... Turkey wrestling
