Just solved a mystery!! Finally saw the coonhound bag a squirrel! Could not figure out how he was able to run one down. They are fast & zig & zag. Coonhound doesn't zig & zag well. He's built to go straight. He's not chasing them. He's picking them off tree trunks. They run to a tree. Scramble up the trunk. But apparently think they are safe without going all the way up the tree. Then coonhound rushes the tree & nabs them. He make a quick rush to the tree & grabs them before they know what hits them. Guess they don't realize he can jump 7 feet in the air. Surprise! This coonie can climb! Wraps his front legs on the tree & uses his rear legs to propel up the tree. I need to try to get it on video. Then...breaks their necks, shakes them a bit, drops them & trots off. This dog is much more athletic than I initially gave him credit for. Can't zig & zag well...but has other talents.

That's crazy! I bet it would be amazing to see! I'm surprised he won't eat it though lol

I've only ever tried squirrel once and it was great. Maybe the neighbor had the perfect recipe lol

They were probably eating his pine trees. I would have believed that they taste like turpentine but not manure.

No he hasn't eaten anything he's killed. My Aussies would run around playing with it at the very least. This guy just makes his kill and that's basically it.
The squirrel stew my dad made was always good. I agree with R3elk about the dux too. Goose...done right is good. My grandma was able to cook them without ot being greasy. I miss her cooking....

Fifty degrees here this morning. It was 39°F at midnight and has kept getting warmer all night.

17 degrees here this morning. and still no water. new pump, new regulator, new wires.... (grrrrr)
