A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have three toms and four royal palm females.Someone posted if the ratio isn’t right the male turkeys will begin trying to mate the chickens and kill them.Has anyone dealt with this issue before? It would be very sad for me to get rid of a Tom as they are very tame pets.
You only have enough hens for one tom. The best option is to get down to one tom through any means necessary which can include rehoming two of the toms. If you keep all of them together there are very strong odds of your turkey hens getting injured.

If you can't bear to get rid of the surplus toms, the other option is to pen them where they cannot see the other tom and the hens. You may feel sad about removing two of the toms but you will be much sadder if they accidentally kill one or more of your turkey hens.

The part about toms trying to breed chicken hens is a concern if a single tom is raised and kept with chickens. He won't understand that there is a difference between chickens and turkeys and will try to mate with them when his hormones are raging.

I had a jake squashed chickens and had a turkey hen tore up when the other Tom try to knock the other off the hen. I had 2 toms and 7 hens
R2ELK is right, you only have enough hens for one

It's not fun to be told that your tame pets will turn into hormonal teenagers that will be ruled by their nature, not their fondness for you. But, it's best to understand and make arrangements for your extra males now.
I keep one tom to 5 to 8 hens my fertility is great. Mine think they are feathered dogs always following us around begging for treats. @mowgli

Sometimes I feel the term mountain means different things to people from different places.
Says the lady from a state named after the word for mountain...
Indeed on the differences! That's why I say I live in "The Little Mountains of Western Maryland". No way do they compare to the ones out west or those north and south of me. Just the same, I am happy to be high enough in an area where the river is quite close, but I am too high to flood. Since I live in a very shaley area, even when it rains it just drains away within minutes. I like it and so do the birds. Much better than a flood plain or having a dam above me. I've stated before that from my front door I can see - not only Maryland - but also PA and WV.

I always have too many toms. I have 3 now and I believe 10 hens. My fertility is awful right now and i know it's because those boys won't let each other mate the girls. I'm going to have to get creative. Thankfully, breeding injuries don't happen here anymore with every girl in a saddle lol

The difference in the mountains is really incredible! We're right near the ridge top on our "mountain" in PA and I always thought we had great views and nice elevation. Then we went to Oregon for my brother's wedding a few years ago.... just driving from Portland to Bend and being able to see the mountains for hours before even getting close was incredible but then, the wedding was on top of Mt Bachelor....WOW. Riding the ski lift up that was definitely incredible and the view, to die for!
