A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

One turkey hen started a nest along the fence line. After a skunk found the nest, she abandoned it. I knew she started a new nest but had not stumbled across it until this evening. She has 9 eggs in it. Hopefully she will go broody soon.

Another hen had started a nest right beside the house and her sister started fighting her for the nest. I tossed a fake egg several feet away from the nest. Now both hens have a nest beside the house. The one that stole the first nest went broody on Saturday.

The hen that had gone broody in the run has stopped being broody. I gave her a dozen eggs to start. She is down to 4 eggs now. Two of those eggs are ones that she laid in the last two days. I do not have proof who is eating the eggs but suspect that it is chickens. I have one chicken hen that when they are allowed out makes a beeline for the live trap, gets herself locked in and eats the turkey egg that is for bait. One of these days she is going to lose her head over it.

Well it's easy to catch her

Currently its 80 here. Yesterday it didn't get above 52. This weather is just nuts.

The coonhound finally went out & spent time patrolling the perimeter! Yesterday he slept all day in a chair. Couldn't get him to out at all.

The girls are taking sun baths. They sure are happy to see the sun.
Another wet dreary day here.
Mason wants to go out but he keeps looking out the door and whining then not going out when I open the door.
I suppose he thinks that I should be able to control the weather. 🤣

Also he has perfected his counter surfing skills.
He knows he is not allowed to put his feet up there and he won't do it if we are watching.
after getting in trouble several times from knocking things off the counter..
now he has learned that when we aren't watching he can stand up and reach his neck out and just lick or eat out of the dish without getting busted as long as he doesn't knock it down. 🤦
Yesterday he stole a single piece of corn bread out of the pan without disturbing anything else.
He thought he was real slick...
But I saw him gobbling down the last bite.
I asked him where he got that from and he ran to Daddy and wagged his tail and tried to make me believe it was given to him. 🤣
Daddy adamantly denied this allegation.
But am not sure which one to believe.

so snoodless the hen has decided that sweetheart and her 5 poults should not get all the glory. Snoodless has gone broody.... silly girl, I gave her some eggs and a dog crate we will see what she does.
Sweetheart still has 5 live babies and they are doing Great! I am so proud of her!
last weekends hatch produced a white one???? WT???>>>> I do not know where that come from??? both my toms at the time were barred black , all the hens in one pen were black or barred black and the other pen had the slates..??? I am excited about it but still confused. we also managed to get a couple that look bronze and 5 slate looking ones to go with the 2 black ones. whew finally got some fun colors!
I have been toying with the idea of setting the eggs from my new slate trio??? I was supposed to be done hatching by June 1st but those eggs are So Tempting!
I have been trying to keep up here but i have been So Busy trying to keep up with work, the kids and to top it off we rented a booth at the local farmers market for the year!! super exciting but it may be a challenge to have enough items to sell?? the girls are making shopping bags from feed sacks and we are offering eggs. the plan is to offer a few plants and some fresh produce when it becomes available, oh and we will be offering limited quantities of processed poultry. Whew!
