I tried moving her back out with the flock. She's desperate for that social interaction but not very strong yet. Her back got all scratched up so I'm assuming one of the toms forced her down. It's not too bad though. I moved her to the big cage that's in the turkey coop so she can be be around everyone but still separated. Last I checked on her she was happily eating while Eve was telling her who's boss through the bars.

I know someone who sells hen saddles....oh wait that's you.


Is this a case of the shoemaker's children have no shoes?

I currently am the very proud owner of a very bossy turkey, as exhibited this morning. My uncle normally lets my chickens, ducks, and turkey out in the mornings because I do not get up till later. I also normally feed my menagerie in the evenings, who are across the creek. Well this morning Tom was having none of it. He was over here by nine o'clock, loudly gobbling and full out strutting, determined that I feed him NOW, or he would continue waking the neighborhood up (he is so loud my neighbor who lives a couple of fields away can hear him.) So I headed over there, and he was very pleased, running after me as fast as his long turkey legs could carry him. Mayhap I will have to switch to morning feedings?

All of my poultry have food available to them at all times.

I hope that you have hens for your tom. Turkeys are very social birds and do best with others of their own kind.

I am trying very hard to find one...there is none around here, or they are selling for outrageous prices. I like to keep food available as much as possible, but we have a rat problem, and if I feed them outside (which I like to do because they do not fight as bad) I have to make sure I give them only as much as they can eat or the cows will eat it.

However, they always get more than enough...they are free range so that helps too!

Hmm, I wonder who that could be? Lol. I just didn't expect that as she's still quite young, just getting up to the same size as the rest of the hens. Once she gets some meat back on her bones though, she'll be covered

It was suppose to be rainy & nasty all weekend. And it's been beautiful. Go figure!

Took the girls for a stroll yesterday. Sort of timed it when there wasn't anyone around. They filled up on clover. Mowed the backyard. Left the mower out to cool off before putting it away. Only to find four turkey hens perched all over it. They just can't ignore something new in the yard. Also got a little gardening done. Usually have a 5 gallon bucket with me for weeds. Girls love going through the weed bucket & throwing stuff all over. My little helpers!!
