Anyone have any tips for turkeys free ranging in the day during -25 wind chills? This is the coldest winter we've had in a long time and my first time with birds during these types of temperatures, and tomorrow it's supposed to be the worst of the week. There's quite a bit of deep snow all over the ground. Do I need to keep an eye on their feet and make sure they don't get frostbite? They have a mini carport shelter with tarp covered sides to stand in if they get too cold with no snow on the ground, which is where they've been staying today. Generally they walk around outside to go get a drink, then retreat back to the big tent to either eat their food and whole corn or just stand around in there. Will that be fine? I'm probably just too worried, haha.

Same as ever other day. We have actual 25-30 below right now and they are doing fine. Add in the wind and we could be a million below wind chill.

I think your over worried, find a wolf to pet.

I assumed they would probably be fine, but since they're pets for me I tend to worry about them as if I had a cat or a dog outside haha. I generally got the idea they were fine as long as they could move around to generate heat or roost to generate it at night. Always just want to make sure though.

We saw a huge flock of wild turkeys out in the fields today on our way home. Probably about 80 of them! They always gather up around this time of year and the massive flock they make amazes me.

Perhaps we should have a regional springtime gathering at some point. There are several clumps of us, western group and eastern group. Would ralphie count as west because he is connected to the dakotas?

South Dakota is in the middle of the western group. I'd have to convince DH to let me go. My oldest would want to come with me.
