Turkeys need more room than that to properly get down from a 6' roost. Your pen can be fairly narrow but I would not make it any shorter than 40' long. I have watched my turkeys use as much as 70" to fly down from a 6' roost. The more distance they have to land, the easier it can be on their feet. Can y'all help me with some math? We are trying to get a permanent sleeping/at night pen for my turkeys and im having issues with square footage. I read its about 10sq ft per turkey in a night only coop. I am going to have 8 turkeys after the babies i keep are big enough. That would be 80sq ft i need, right? A 10x10 dog kennel is 100sq ft as well, right? So would 1 10 x 10 dog kennel be big enough as a night only pen for my turkeys?
Thanks. sorry if confusing. I am tired and have been trying to figure stuff out for a week. I am not interested in roosting them outside btw. Nothing against those of you who do, I just dont prefer it myself.
Another thing to remember is that as adults, turkeys do not tend to roost next to each other.
