A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Thank you.
My girls will be home tomorrow. The vet has keeped them for 2.5 days. They will have to get shots every day in the chest and bandages changed every couple of days. The vet put some type of gel over the wounds that sills it off from air, dirt and flies after 14 days it starts to drop off. Leaving to New skin in place.
There wasn't much flesh left for her to suture but she was able to do a little bit. They will always be deformed the vet said.
Your birds are very lucky to have such good care. Your story sounds like my worst nightmares. I am so sorry you had to experience that. Did you find the rest of the missing birds? I hope you are able to solve the problem with SSS.

Update on Hedylogus: Save for a decent sized scab on his head, this little guy is healed and still thinks he has to sit with me at night.

Sorry it's been awhile, we're trying to get our 5th Wheel Camper ready for winter habitation since my wife will be living in it full time while doing home dialysis.

My girls are finally home. Hopefully in about 14 days they can go back out side. They both seem strong and happy. Talking up a storm. Good thing we have two bathtubs. Yes 3 where hurt but only 2 went to the vet. The third one I felt even though she had some torn skin would be just fine and she was back out side with in 24 hours after the attack and doing great. Her wounds I new I could take care of my self. I got a can of scarlex spray..
The Tom he is finally back to him self after 3days. Showing off for everyone. The total cost was 1,095.55....
No regrets. So we lost 1 turkey hen 1 turkey tom and 5 chickens and my husband's Bramha rooster. We are keeping a loaded gun close so if the dogs come back. Good thing my son knows how to use it. He's never killed anything but after this I'm sure he will have no problem doing so.
I'm trying to stay positive and remember it could have been alot worse. Going back to work tomorrow. My husband and I took a couple extra days off to dill with what happened. Thank goodness we work for such a great trucking company.

I wish I had that luck,
I am lucky that she will do it, and she only does bird work because I ask reeeeeealy nicely. I had to find them a poultry reference manual for general practice veterinarians. I suppose most of you already know that a lot of vets won't see birds, and that is because avian medicine is seen as a specialty. Daughter plans on getting a fellowship to specialize in poultry/birds.

Had a cooler but sunny day today made for a good day to process some hens. Did 12 of them to get ready to smoke them this weekend. Parted them out so will mainly have smoked turkey breasts. But will lightly smoke legs and thighs to use to make hot shredded creamed turkey sandwich and freeze in smaller portion's to have all winter. Still have around 30 jennies to smoke for Thanksgiving and 30 Jakes to get ready for Thanksgiving roasting birds. So looks like I'm going to be busy from now till the 23rd. But will sure be glad to see the feed bill go down. :D
