The governor of Wyoming signed a proclamation the other day prohibiting sales, swaps, shows, etc. because they have found 2 cases of Avian Influenza in domestic flocks. My 3rd batch of eggs I set in incubator are hatching today they are about halfway through hatching. 2 more sets still in incubator to hatch yet. About 10 broody hens sitting on nests. Everything is going well so far taking a lot more orders this year so far for poults. Hoping to sell more this year than last, last year wasn't very good for poult sales for me.
I hear youThe governor of Wyoming signed a proclamation the other day prohibiting sales, swaps, shows, etc. because they have found 2 cases of Avian Influenza in domestic flocks.
I will probably pull the plug on my incubator because there is no point hatching poults that I am prohibited from selling.
Yeah but do you break even...much less make anything?I will hatch my 3 batches and then stop due to avian influenza. I can still grow them out and sell dead ones. When the issue is passed, I will likely still have some hens. People seem to want to buy adult breeder turkey hens and point of lay pullets or mature chicken hens. As long as I have the space,
It is unlikely that USPS will stop shipping since the regs that I have seen allow the hatcheries and retail outlets to continue selling.Does anyone know of a central site that shows state by state restrictions from around the country? I've searched for a central site but the best I can up with are state sites, even those are hard to navigate.
Also, do you think USPS might halt shipping?
maybe. But at least I eat well... I have a very big freezer and I don't buy meat at the store. My parents have cattle and we all share 2 cows a year between us, and, surprisingly, the market for live birds tends to be higher value than the dead ones. This year I have been asking 60 each for 6 month old replacements. For a very good bird I might be able to haggle for more. Free ranging helps with the groceries, they do graze a lot when allowed to, but do I make clear profit?I hear you
