A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Do you all do anything to keep wild toms from making “visitations” to your hens or is it something you don’t worry about/you don’t live near wild turkeys?
My new house is very near a wood with a flock of wild turkeys and while I would love some wild hybrids I’m not sure how safe or ethical it is.
Check your state laws and how they deal with wild crosses. Here the law specifically states that all wild crosses belong to the state.

I have wild hens visit every year. One year, one of the hens brought her poults back. Two of them turned out to be toms. I bought two turkey hunting licenses and harvested both toms.

I don't mind the hens but don't want the toms breeding my hens.

Here the law is such that it's my responsibility to build covered pens if I don't want the wild turkeys mixing with my flock.

I saw at least one state that required domestic turkeys to be kept penned with free ranging not permitted because theat state does not want any domestic/wild crosses.

Here is my ambiguous sweetgrass. He is a late bloomer but is finally strutting. He was born June 2023.

He has a crooked keel so will be processed.
