A complete mystery...?(kinda graphic pic)

Hi!
I'm just so confused right now. The Strangest thing happened over last weekend.

My dad has a waterer thing for our chickens and when I went out to the coop in the morning to change the water for the chickens, this is what I found...

(Bottom of waterer is gone because I was gonna be refill it. This is the top part, upside down)
It's so strange! I found this blood on the water dish!

None of the 5 chickens have ANY signs of injury on them!

One of them has a little blood on her head feathers, but none of her feathers are picked out or anything.

It's such a mystery....
any ideas?

Maybe that particular hen broke a "blood feather"??

Are you shure its blood?, some times I get that
rust color kinda of elgy I guess you could say inside
the waterer

Looks like blood from a comb injury, they bleed really easy, and if a chicken with this injury drinks, its comb brushes against the waterer.

It IS blood. I know it is. not algae.

It looks like one of them had a bloody comb.

Exactly what RoosterRed and 12 acres said. A little neosporin or Corona Smear (for horses) and she'll be good as new in a few days.

I had to edit, thought it was something else, but looks like the stuff is on the outside.

NOTE: The blood is on the OUTSIDE OF THE WATERER!

NOT on the inside, where the water is.

Comb injury sounds right and you said one of your hens had a little blood on her head so that must be it!! Mystery solved?
