A contest for the duds!

I have 2 hens I brought home as baby's on 6/15/17, neither has laid an egg yet.
One is a Buff Orphington, the other is an Amaurecauna (poor spelling).
Both turned about 16 weeks on the week the time changed, and the days got short and colder, so I figure that has something to do with it. but...

I am just about ready to give up on em. :barnie
they havent shown any signs of squatting yet

been kinda frustrating, my last two layers had started eating eggs, so they were relocated to a new home before these moved to the coop.
These two were also part of a group of 6 who came home together, but one turned out to be a rooster who actually killed the other 3 before I caught him. Unfortunately they were getting a bit big for the brooder box, but I hadnt found a new home for the egg eaters yet and didnt want to risk the babies picking up the bad habit.

anyway, tell me it will be alright, these two girls will get to laying soon. I am tired of store bought eggs.

I have 2 pullets that just finally started laying at 36 weeks and 38 weeks. They were hatched 5/13/17.
Hang in there. One thing I learned on BYC is that layer feed can actually delay them. It was recommended to switch to grower or all flock 18-22 %. I switched to all flock 20% and one started laying a week later and the other about 2 weeks later.

I have 13 duds so far! All are barred rocks that were born August 23rd and came from Cackle Hatchery. I live on Lake Ontario in NY, currently getting about 10 hours of daylight. Bright red combs and wattles on all of them. No squatting whatsoever, I have watched the one rooster they live with attempt to breed them. On layer feed and have access to grit and oyster shell.

I'm sorry you have so many duds! My last dud is a March 1 hatch (if it makes you feel any better) and most of the folks in the group have older birds than August, so I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Maybe consider taking them off layer feed if they aren't laying yet. I know I may be asking the obvious, but you don't have any secret hiding spots around they may be laying do you? Also let's see a photo of your duds if you've got them, public shaming on the internet has got to give them some sort of motivation right? Hopefully your rooster knows something and that's why he's trying to mount them. The time has got to be near!

They are honestly some of the friendliest and calmest chickens I have ever owned, my first barred rocks and first flock I have raised in the fall, I just assumed by now I’d have at least one or two eggs from 13 hens.

I don’t believe they have found a hiding spot. Due to my work schedule they sometimes spend two or three days in the coop without the opportunity to free range and my wife won’t let them in the yard when I’m not home.

You've got some healthy looking girls with some huge combs! Someone better give up the goods soon, they certainly look ready!

View attachment 1255504 Well, the public shaming apparently worked, haha! At 165 days old one of the 13 pullets finally laid an egg!

Hahahahaha... this is fantastic! It only took a few days of internet infamy to get an egg. 2-3 more days and you'll have enough for an omelette! Hopefully the other 12 will learn from example!

OMG OMG, my last dud laid an egg!!! It's 3 months since I started this thread and at 11 months of age my lil gold laced Wyandotte is finally officially a layer! I came home to 4 brown eggs today, which is not seemingly possible since one of my layers lays blue eggs, which means DOT LAID HER FIRST EGG! It is the tiny one in the middle. The girls must have had a heck of a day as I got a poopy egg, a very broken egg, and a new tiny egg with blood on it.
