Possibly gape worms. You can take a q-tip and go to back of the throat and do a swipe and be able to see if there is worms on the q- tip. Here is a link about the worms. If not, could be respiratory.
Vet RX is basically metholatium /camphor with a few other ingredients. Sometimes I put the camphor on their nose airways to help them breathe better and it does help. Might try that until you can get Vet RX
Thanks for all the help! I have just come back from the vets. He is pretty sure she has a respiratory infection. He can't see any worms or anything else stuck in her throat. He said her crop feels fine... If anything it may be very slightly impacted, but she's eaten today so hard to say. He has given her a shot of antibiotics plus more for her water. Also gave her a gape worm tablet, and more for me to give to both of them (oh sounds like fun!)
It cost me $125 all up, $80 of which was an outside of hours consultation fee. Very impressed with them, and though he said he's not an expert on chickens, he has his own and knows a little bit about them. Which I think is all I could hope
thats excellent seems like you have all bases covered. keep us posted on hows shes doing x
is the antibiotic liquid? if so i use a syringe and just drip it onto the side of the beak slowly its time consuming but i find mine are happier that way rather than trying to open the beak which in my exprriene they hate! good luck xx
Thanks shell. Penny got an injection, and the rest of it is to go in their drinking water. She perked up after her injection and is pretty much back to herself now! She isn't talking to me quite as much as she was before though but hopefully that comes back
She has already had a nights sleep. Poor thing kept falling asleep all over the place yesterday and henrietta was picking on her. But seems all is back to normal now and she is a bit more chatty now
