found this post, also said put your ear against her chest under wing if lungs sound raspy then prob respiratory infection.
dont know if im helping here ! ill leave you to it. good luck xxx

I had a hen with similar symptoms a year or so ago. The yawning thing had me wondering about gapeworm also. But I could hear that she was wheezing when I listened to her breathe, so I decided to treat for respiratory infection.

The first thing I did was to separate her from the others.

Then I went to the feed store and ordered the Tylan injectible. By the next morning, her face was becoming swollen. I put Sulmet in her water, because I had it. Kept her on it for 5 days, I believe. By the time the Tylan came in, she was completely recovered from taking the Sulmet.

I still kept her quarantined for a few more days, just in case. But she was fine, and has not had any further respiratory problems.

Good luck with this. Respiratory problems are very scary!

She's happily eating. (Maybe not quite as much as normal, but she's usually a guts, so is still eating a good amount), and she's been free ranging for most of the day. I had noticed she's not as water proof as our other chicken. Other one looks normal, with water droplets. Penny looks like a drowned cat when she gets wet, so I'm thinking the rain got to her?

I just really need to get her through the night and then I can get her to a vet tomorrow, when its hopefully a little less cyclonic and it won't be pich black (though it will be a public holiday... Sigh! Lol)

All help is useful! I can feel her rattling when I pick her up. I will take her to the vet tomorrow anyway because I don't know enough about chickens to comfortably treat this myself. I just need to get her through the night :( no sleep for me and I'm already exhausted

Why do they always get ill when its impossible to get to a vet or when its gonna cost three times the normal consult fee just to get to see one!!
I feel your pain

good luck , keep us posted. if i come across any info i think might be useful..... ill post it xx

Coffee is my new friend! I will be staying up with her tonight so I can keep checking on her (thankfully I can hear her breathing through the door so I don't have to keep disturbing her). The wind is wild. It just took our tv antenna off the roof :/ SO glad I brought them inside earlier. Their coop is still in tact but I have a little peace of mind, and can check on her without fear of getting blown away

Oh gosh your weather sounds just dreadful! and here was me moaning about a bit of average rain this morning!! i think you did right bringing them in at least they can relax without added stress of weather.
no antenna! does that mean you cant even sit up and watch tele all night!?

It's the worst weather I've ever seen. The rain is torrential (hasn't stopped for 3 days and has been heavy for most of that) and the wind picked up today and is so strong. I actually bought the chickens in at a time that I could hardly walk to their coop. I grabbed one (they were asleep, so not too impressed) and pulled her out. Ran to the house, put her in the bath and ran back for the other one. Did the same, then ran back and closed their house up. The soil is drenched. Running through its like running through quicksand. We have a storm water creek behind us that is steadily rising. Brisbane flooded majorly 2 years ago, and they are saying it will happen again. Though we are expecting 11m of water rather than 16 like last time. Thankfully our place was ok last time and should e ok this time, but it's pretty hard! I'm feeling pretty anxious with a sick hickey, a bf that is out saving the world, and this wild weather.

Oh, and I left the fridge door open and a lot of my food was close to room temperature when I found out. Food is going to be scarce so I just have to hope for the best when eating it! Thankfully we are vegetarians so its only really yoghurt and cheese, because we've run out of milk.
