Now when do we talk about chicken healthcare? I really would love to have a chicken vet handy...

Actually that is coming too, there is a bill I can't remember the number that will make it illegal to take care of our chickens ourselves. The over the shelf livestock health products will no longer be available unless from a vet. These bills are about taking away our self sufficiency and ability to stand on our own.

There are already things that I do for my cows that only a vet is supposed to do.

ridiculous, if ya ask me. they're going to regulate us all into ignorance and poverty.

but then, it'll be easier on them, because we'll all be dependant upon Big Daddy Govt. to save us all.

and on that note, I'm gonna go and get a diet coke (ruin my health) and smoke a cigarette (REALLY ruin my health).

We are not #1 in health care in the world We might be #1 in cost. Why is it we never see any health care programs talked about that the other top countries use. The only thing I have heard is Canada. Why is that? What do they know that we don't?

We all need to take a good look at what is going on. Scares me as a Senior person.

Mojo Chick'n :

Ok, so I have no insurance - my husband and I both go to the doctors every six months - doctors visit costs us around 50 bucks, so roughly 200 a year total on doctor office visits.

Prescriptions at Walmarts - 10 bucks every 3 months - so roughly (x2) - cost is about 80 bucks per year.

= 280 bucks per year for maintenance health costs for both of us together.

Health insurance - I believe someone said they were paying 400 dollars per month - with more than likely no guarantee that when they really do need the insuarance that they won't be dropped.

seems to me, I'd rather stick that 400 per month into a savings account or money market account (if you want interest earned) or even an old mason jar (if you just want to make sure you know where it is) and cut out the middle man.

I wonder how much the Government Run Health Care would cost me?

No, I don't have any insurance eighter and don't really plan on getting any, unless it would be at very reasonable cost. I never go to the doctor unless it's broke. I had an appendicidis attack about three years ago and had to go to the emegency room. They were all ready to cut it out untill they found out I had no ins. about 2 hours later. They immediatly changed their plan of attack and pumped me up with antibiotics and sent me on my way. I did recover without an operation. Then I got a 5,000. bill from the hospital. Well, I was unemployed at the time. I was going to try to pay it off the best I could. In the meantime, I ment a lady that worked in PR (I think) she said just prove my unemployment and income and the hospital would write it off and they did! I didn't pay anything. Now, if I had ins. they would have went on with the operation and it would have cost 20,000. probably (just guessing).
Now, they did that for me, because I didn't have ins. just think of all the money that could have been saved if they can fix an appendicidis attack with antibiotics. And they were preping me for an operation.

US: Food safety bill, no antibiotics rules 03 Aug 2009
The US House of Representatives has passed the food safety legislation without including new rules for the use of antibiotics in livestock.

Including the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act of 2009 (PAMTA) would ban from use in livestock and poultry animal health products that are used to prevent and control diseases – much like legislation which has been existing in the EU since January 1, 2006.
