A dog killed all my chicken last night

I lost 2 silkies hens and a banty braham hen Sunday night. The Dober Pincher broke the cage door hinges to get in and would have killed my silkie rooster and my banty brahan rooster if i had not gone out to feed early that morning. The **** dog was still in the cage eating one of my silkie hens with a pile of feathers nearby. All that were left were the feathers and both of the rooster in the far corner trembling waiting their turn to die. The bad thing is that i called the dog owner phone number, the dog had a collar with the phone number on it. He sent his teenage son to pick the dog up after i told him to pay for the damages and he was to scare to come himself. I still have not been paid. I told him if the dog ever set foot in my property again he will never get him back as TN has a law that i can request a livestock killing dog down and my wife took pics and i have a written report from the police. My wife heart is broken because they were really hers with the regular chickens mine.Lousy dog.

I've had a neighbor's dog kill my free-range chickens before. I didn't get too upset because that's just what bird dogs are born to do and I expect losses with free-range birds.

If I caught a dog actually in my coop eating chickens, though, I think I'd call the owners to come and pick up the carcass.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. That must have been horrible. I feel so bad for you.

P.S. What happened to your niece pepperluvsmee?

i know how it feels. i lost about 20 to 30 chickens last year to dogs. lost all my $400.00 worth of pheasants to a dog last month he went through a fence and then a pen to get them. good thing is he couldn't get out. dad got him. and i got one of the dogs that was killing my chickens.

We had a similar thing happen some years ago. My wife went out to the pen, went into it, and then saw dead chickens all around. Then two dogs came out of the chicken house and started growling at her and coming toward her. She ran out and slammed the gate to keep them from getting her. I think they could have jumped over the fence to get out, just as they had done to get in, but they didn't. She came in and told me about it. I went out with my shotgun and killed both of them. The owner was mad and threated to sue me for killing his VALUABLE dogs. I told him he was lucky his dogs didn't get my wife. Then I told him to call the animal control office or the sheriff's dept and tell them about it. I knew they would tell him that he had a responsibility to keep his dogs home and that I had a right to defend my family and animals. I never heard any more from him.

Sorry. I would cry all day too. People just can't take care of their pets. What happened to the leash law? In small towns the men get together and shoot the strays.

UPDATE The dogs owner has not paid for the damages yet or even said he was sorry but he did tell one of my neighbor that if i killed his dog for entering my yard he was going to sue me.
I had no intention of shooting his dog but i will call the humane society to come and put the dog down as a livestock killer , Tennessee law allow me to do this. I live in the county and the county does have a leash law but does not enforce it unless the dog is dangerous or is a livestock killer. If the dog had gotten in the pen with my standard chicken my RIR Rooster would have hurt the dog as he is mean enough and is very protected.
I just hope that he will keep his dog home so i have no problems with him again.
