A finished quilt

Beautiful quilt!!!!

I have avoided surgery for carpel tunnel by learning to properly use my hands and wrists after I read an article that said most surgeries are not needed if we were to learn to reuse them properly and do some strengthening. Mine were really bad and now give only minimal problems. Mom had surgery for hers and has more trouble than me.

MissPrissy - your work is gorgeous! I have a small quilt I started, oh, about 9 years ago that still isn't done. It was my first and I promised myself I would hand quilt (machine pieced) my first quilt before I started machine quilting. Needless to say, it's taking awhile!

I love the antique colors too. Those dark, dramatic colors are just perfect for snuggling under on a cold winter's night.

My mom isn't much of a quilter, but she did something unique with doilies (sp?) that I thought was a great idea. She had a number of doilies that my grandmother made years ago. Mom wanted to preserve them but also showcase them. She cut out large blocks of solid fabric and attached the doilies to them and then pieced those blocks together with patterned fabric in the same color scheme. It came out beautifully and looks so old fashioned!

Please share the secret, Kitty. I have wear hand braces at night.

Thank you all. It is really sometimes a relief to finish a quilt.

Love your quilts! I just bought my aunt's used once spanking brand new sewing machine! Now if I can make some CW dresses for myself and my daughter, I would be one happy woman!

I wore them day and night.

Pay attention to the position your using your hand. If it is not the same as what the brace holds it (for straight wrist projects) then hold them the same. That is the position you need to learn to use. As for excersises, ones that build strength. I do enough lifting with the farm work I didn't have to do anymore--just learn to use the wrists in the proper position. I had a bad habit of laying my arm on the tractor fender and letting my hand bend down--it hurt! Don't do things like that. There are times when we work with bent wrists that need to be but, there are times it does damage. Watch your keyboarding too!

I know it sounds to simple to work. I thought the same but, didn't want surgery so I gave it a try.
