A FOX killed my 2 adorable
male Peking ducks (Huey and Louie) this morning...they tried to fight it off while the female made it to the big pond. She did, they didn't.

Am devastated.

It was around 9am...I thought foxes only come around dawn or dusk. Maybe because it was raining??? I saw the fox while I was at the barn but did not have my shotgun...of all times. :-(( Had just bought two younger females and have them in the front yard getting acclimated, glad I didn't let them out back where the pond is yet.

Now I have three FEMALE DUCKS and no males. How awful. I cannot stop crying. These were my buddies, ones I raised and they gave their lives for the girl. My husband is sitting back there waiting for it to come back now

...am afraid it will return and go after my geese. It is pouring rain and windy here...just an awful, awful day!!

I'm so sorry

I'm going through the same thing. My favorite rooster got it two nights ago, I chased the fox down and got him back he made it until this morning. Fox didn't return last night but I bet he does tonight . . . I will be up and ready, hope you are too.

p.s. your bird in your avatar is very pretty.

Thank you....the bird in my avatar is grown now and still beautiful. I have two of these Hamburg hens. So sorry about your rooster...

I will be looking for Mr./Ms FOX later this evening and tomorrow morning. My main flock of chickens are safe behind 5' chainlink and two big houses at night but there are several chickens and one RIR roo that roost in my horse barn that are out and about free ranging early in the morning. This morning because of the rain they were not out...just the ducks and geese.

I know where the fox came in the back fence and there is a small pig house near there where I can sit and wait and not be in the weather. Am just sooooo sad, as is the surviving hen, who is now in a pen and not a happy camper.

For years I have dealt with racoons and possums and finally got that under control and now THIS...and two at one time? Just awful.

I'm sorry too. I think foxes are changing their behaviors. Last year the fox always came between 9am-noon. This year she is back. She came at 8:30 in broad daylight on Wednesday. When I was a kid they always came at night. Maybe because our dogs were out during the day?
