Could be. Like I said I don't know nuthing about pekins.Maybe I'm mixing my normal chicken maturing rates and my duck rates. My WH took 30 weeks. They were fall hatches so had to wait all winter till the days got longer. Thought they were going to lay for like two months before that. Turns out they were just fat.Guess they needed a little padding for those cold winter days.![]()
I don't know if production numbers have anything to do with it. Maybe. Pekins are decent layers, not the top laying breed but still good. If it's a Pekin cross maybe the other breed is a high laying breed.
When my Campbells were young, my mom told me when they would lay based on the chickens(who we got two months afterwards).And that to the fact that those duck lay early and your waaaaay unprepared for eggs. So I wasn't even checking the box because I thought no way they will lay for another two months. Then one day my sister come in with three eggs(from the same duck, not all at once. I could tell coz one was really small and they got progressively bigger) and my mom yells at ME coz I wasn't checking.
