A hawk nearly got one of my bantams. May I ask a few questions?

Hawk Proof!

Thank you, everyone, for replying!
Marshmallow is doing well, and I have been applying triple-antibiotic ointment twice every day. She's been quiet, but she's always like that. Marshmallow is a very mellow hen, as far as I can tell.
I don't think that Komugi is coming back. She was really pretty, and I'll miss her, but at least I have pictures. And five other attention hogs, who are still prolific egg layers.
cmom -- I assure you, I have no intention of shooting the hawk. Actually, I haven't seen it since the attack, which was on Thursday. Also, nice picture! Hawks look so cool!
Thanks again for replying, everyone, and good luck with your flocks!

No exaggeration here. I am from Ohio and I have seen my share of hawks. I now live in the hills of south/middle tennessee. These hawks are the real deal.

At any given time there are a half dozen circling so so far up its a wonder how they can see down so far. Sometimes i see them just above the tree tops. I mean big hawks. Just yesterday I had the idea to video one.

My chicks are still in the coop and my x-large run is getting covered with bird netting.

I have been wondering if a hawk is smart enough not to dive into bird netting?

With my luck I will be out on a ladder un-tangling a pi$$ed off hawk that got caught in the net.

I figured the netting would give the chickens enough time to get back into the coop if a hawk hits it.

My pen is 50x25 so hardware cloth is not an option as it would cost fsr to much

They are not together they are spread all over the sky. They are hawks they come down and at the same time all the birds at the bird feeder take off in every direction. Last night i saw one just above the trees. A big sucker. I wondered if he hears the guineas and young chickens inside the coop. He was that low

Brown wings. Huge wingspan. Lighter brown body. No video yet the idea just occurred to me last evening when we saw a big one just above the woodline. The vultures here in TN are black amd fat. These hawks put ohio's hawks to shame. I will catch one within a day or 2 we see this every day. Catch him on camera i mean. I know they have great eyes but im wondering if they can hear the chicks in the coop. That ciop is getting noiser by the day. The guineas never shut up and a little sebright rooster started his crowing. Its getting noisy and within the last 2 weeks we noticed the big hawks are just above us now and no chickens habe been out yet. Bird netting going up first
