Good to know it’s going better. Here in Australia you need a licence to keep Emus and other native animals. I have never seen other colour variations other then the normal. I have only seen a wild emu once, I’ve seen plenty of captive ones at zoos.
But this only shows the truly 'blond' emus. In the wild, there is a fair -- even surprising -- spectrum of plumage colour. A few emus are really very dark, and an occasional one is 'sandy.' I really like the dark ones!
After getting him I looked them up. Didn't know they even existed until their breeder told me one of my chicks was a blonde. From what I've found, they lose the few brown spots and turn a solid cream. This is one of the pics i found of an adult.
Glad to hear you chick's issue has been addressed. I thought of vitamin deficiency (chickens) but no clue with Emus, and you were going to the Vet. That's the best remedy. Happy to hear she'll be getting better soon & be that beautiful bird in the pic
Hi-
This is most likely wry neck. I had an emu chick do the same thing (head between legs), and we treated him with a bunch of vitamins and it went away in a week. We put Nutri-Drench, B-12, and E Oil in his water.
Good luck, and glad to hear he's already doing better!
