I think all flock because of roosters. Also, there is always a door, but the chicks don't like to leave the coop yet.

My chicks start out in the coop at a day or two old (however old they are when they arrive from the hatchery). This year I used a MHP (mama heating pad) to brood them, and it was great! You'd be surprised at how much time those chicks spent outside of the MHP. They don't need constant heat, nor do they need constant light. Even with a mama hen, they run around until they need warming up, then go under her. They're not being warmed constantly by her. I would think in GA, in the summer, they would be fine in the coop without heat at 3 weeks or so. Maybe younger.if the chicks are not fully feathered they shouldnt be outside untill they do. unless mommie chicken is there sitting on them they wont like it and need to have atleast 90 degree temps till older. thats why mommy sits on them at night. if there is no mommie you should keep them under a heat lamp or use a low temp heatrock. or some way to keep them warm. and the others are right the peep and peep alot. my chickens didnt stop till about 6 weeks old. then they just just started fighting each other lol
And how big is the run?The coop is about... Ummm... I'd say about 5 ft by 3.5 ft maybe?
If your coop doesn't leak, they'll be fine in the coop. They are back in the brooder for awhile because it will thunderstorm all weekI will move hem outside soon...
My roosters have always protected the chicks.I would reccommend NOT putting the chicks in with roosters. they will try to kill them. I seen too many stories on the internet about peoples roosters killing chicks.
These are very good questions.Ok so I replied on the other thread before seeing this. The thunderstorm isn't an issue, the setup might be. A 15 sq ft coop isn't much space to do integration. How many chicks, how many adults, have they spent time with each other before? Any photos of the setup? I would NOT lock the chicks+ adults in a small coop without some avenue of escape unless they've already spent time with the adults and you know for sure the adults won't attack them or chase them outside.
Also do not mix the adult food with chick food. If you don't have a 2nd feeder to feed them separately then put them all on the chicks food. The babies shouldn't be eating layer yet. If you're feeding an all flock type feed then make it easier on yourself and have the chicks on all flock too.
Agreed.I always make sure that they can see each other but cannot get to each other. It’s not even so much my rooster I’m worried about it’s my old her hens
