He was only 4lbs. We should have gone sooner. Thing is, and of course we didn't know this, the disease allows them good days, so we kept thinking he was getting better. Hoping beyond hope I guess. Reality is we should have taken him in sooner.

Please don't beat yourself up.

You didn't know. Its just so hard to say goodbye. I understand, believe me.

I am not so much beating myself up as looking in hindsight, which really is 20/20. Ugh.

I hear you. Sometimes there really is no definitive answer when it comes to these things.

You've here for a while so you have read alot of peoples trials. Having an answers to their deaths has made a BIG difference for me. Losing 3 cats in 18 months, and the massacre in November that cost us 24 chickens and 9 ducks..... Raising animals, there are risks and those of us that love them always manage to find a way to continue. That is what we are doing. We have rebuilt the flock now - of course not all are laying yet, but the numbers are there. And no cat for a year. I can live with that.

Awwwwwwww. I know what you're saying. I'm one of the biggest animal lovers around. I rescue all kinds of critters, even ones like opposums, that most people here can't stand.

Sometimes I think I like animals MUCH better than some people I know, if you know what I mean? I use to foster cats/kittens for our county's animal control, and just loved it!! It was so hard to give them all back, you become so attached. Right now, I've got 15 cats, almost all of them were rescued, in one way or another. Just keep doing what you're doing, we need many more people in this world just like you.

I hope your flock stays out of harms way. I know how much I just love all my girls.

I'm sorry, that is just horrible. I'm glad you know what the cause was though. When I lost a cat several years ago to the same thing I wasn't told to not bring in a new cat for a year though. I already had other cats and I brought in a baby kitty and never had a problem, I got lucky I guess.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my Oscar to FIP (feline peritonitis) as well. He was just a wee little kitten.
I hate FIP. It is a terrible terrible disease.

Doing the work I do, I see many cats that come in with it too. Its terrible. I wish they had an effective vaccine against it.
