A Little Off Topic ....... Sucker Run is On!

I grew up fishing with Dad and he always threw back everything except trout & bass. DBF and I do alot of fishing now and we keep everything. I never knew a bluegill sandwich could be so yummy!!! He's smoked catfish, carp & trout too. We even tried sheephead. I didn't care for that one

This will be our first attempt at suckers and I can't wait to try!

I love love love sheeps head. It is like a meatie fish with huge steaks. The teeth freak me out though

How do you cook it? It was ok fresh off the grill but pretty fishy tasting leftover. I'm not a lover of strong fish.

When our daughters were in Girl Scouts many years ago they worked the sucker run in Omer as a fund raising project for their troop. They made a pretty good amount for their camp fund. Smoked sucker is delicious!!

Hi Connie, I'm from Germany too? I was born in Aachen and also lived in Duisburg.
I do miss some of the food. Including pickled herring with German sour cream and beet salad. My grandfather used to make those once we cam to the states. I have no one around me who would even stand to be near me while I eat it.

Actually I do have a friend not too far and we share a nice german meal every now and then.

I have never fished a sucker run but have heard of them, I have caught suckers before...great fighter!

I'm thinking I won't be trying any sucker for awhile. Any fish or meat for that matter that I want to wait for the bones to dissolve for it to taste better doesn't sound like something I'd try or get my son to try. I'm sure it taste fine but it sounds like an acquired taste. I have friends who love bluefish and I hate it....try it smoked it tastes better...still nasty to me.
