A mallard-derived sister for Daphne?

Ooooo buff all the way!!! I have 3 and don't regret and single one of them! They all have very different personality and they are just the cutest!!!! I was just out there and they let me give them little pats on the back. When they where little they where nice, when they where let in the run they where skittish, then they came back round! But it is your choice....no pressure.

I'm planning to get five Golden Layer females four Buff females and one Buff male next spring. I think that will be a nice extension to my five runner ducks, fawn and white, 2 drakes 3 females. What i've heart is that the Buffs are the calmest and tamest ducks of all. (?)

Some...I guess. I mean no matter what people tell you on calmest duck is really going to depend on how you work with them. Like what I mean is that if you have a Buff and don't play with it when young and hand feed will not be very social VS a buff who is handheld talked to and hand fed when young. But yes I really think that buffs are fun and calm ducks! Here are my buff girls!

:loveThey look really cute! Somehow buff ducks always look happy to me, maybe it is the colour…
I think even the most scared buff duck is nothing compared to my hand-fed and cared for Indian Runner bitches. Except for Limpy my special need duck they all yell »murder death crime« on top of their lungs when i just try to touch them. That is so frustrating! :barnie
I hope by adding some calmer and friendlier ducks they will calm down too and don't treat me like the duck-swallowing humain. ;)

Buffs are not the only calm breeds ...Appleyard are great too..

I know, also Welsh Harlequin. But those are heavy breeds and the Buff is a medium and the Golden Layer is a light breed that might bond better to the lightweight Runners. - Just my thought. I also like to add some Cayugas and Rouens to my flock later - if i cannot get my hands on some Dutch Hookbills…

Sorry @Daphne_loves_mealworms for stealing your thread! :bow

The more i read about the Dutch Hookbill, the more i want to help this breed, i found the article »Raising Critical Breeds: Dutch Hookbill and Aylesbury Ducks« on the CountrySide Daily's web-site, where they state »They have sweet personalities and the boys always treat the girls well. I seldom have to worry much about ratios of drakes to ducks with this breed.«
For me here in West Virginia i can drive (6 hrs) to Maryland and visit Dana Kee of Moose Manner Farms located Accokeek, MD, she is selling ducklings in spring. My wife always wanted to make a vacation trip to D.C. so we could pick up the new duckies on our way back.
@Jpat you could try to contact Colin Davis of Apricot Valley Waterfowl, located in Cobourg, Ontario, but they only sell adult birds.
