A moment of mourning for the passing of an era

One loud mouth or bad experience ruins things for everyone else, unfortunately.

That's where most school rules come from...not the school, but parents who threaten to sue or beat and beat and beat on the school administrators and school board about the tiniest things until they give in.

Schools have to have that rule, and everyone can easily understand why. All you have to do is consider some peoples' kitchens and personal hygiene. Also, some kids/parents simply cannot be trusted not to pull an insignificant or even dangerous trick on fellow students, such as exlax in the chocolate.
With that said, I have to admit that I never refused allowing my students to bring in any treats any time as long as there was enough for everyone, i.e., there was always room in the schedule to stop and eat some fudge or a cupcake.
You got permission from the teacher who knew that he/she could trust you; he/she probably thought that you'd bring it straight to the room. Your mistake was going to the office and announcing the arrival of the goodies. Doing that you left the principal no choice but to enforce the rule.

Many years ago when I was a kid the school stopped letting kids bring mademade food for the class. It had to come in a package or from a bakery. It was because a student with a less than clean family brought in cupcakes and half the class got food poisoning. That was over 40 years ago, so this isn't new. The stupid few have been spoiling it for the majority for a long time.

never ask "what next ?" it might get somebody thinking..

How about this for "what next"?

No asking the kids from school to your home for a Birthday party !!

I have never heard of this, but that is just the kind of thing that comes with "what next"..

We don't make the rules, but we do have to follow them, and I'm sick and tired of crap like this.

I don't think it was meant as an insult. And the OP did take them to the teachers lounge where they were appreciated. I'm sure they also disappeared.

It has been that way at our schools for over 5 years now. I used to love to bake things and bring them in for my childs class. Let me tell you, I won't bring in anything any more. The world has become such a sad place at times, it just makes you wonder??
Now, when they have a "bake sale", guess what?? You got it, store bought items! What ever, then can have fun, don't count me in on it.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

I left the cupcakes in the teacher's lounge. I told DD at least this way she'd get some brownie points with the staff!! they were thrilled!

I delivered a few to my elderly neighbor. No one can see a cupcake and not smile!

It cost me $12 to BUY enough cupcakes for the class and they were tiny!!

Now YOU are the kind of parent all teachers in the school appreciate!

Brownie points?
Never underestimate the power of fudge or a chocolate pie or flowers to raise your child's grades if they're teetering at say B+ or A-.
