Our hen, Coco, just hatched her brood of eleven! Aren’t they so cute?? My two year old is smitten with them. She loves to watch them.

We are trying to let Coco raise them since we got rid of the duckling/chick eating pig we had. She is so used to free ranging, I’m praying she stays in her yard…I may have to cover with netting.

The fox also came back today so I’m trying my best to make a temporary fenced area for her to safely do so until we get the duck coop/run complete. Thankfully my husband was outside and saw it and scared it off.

I know I have to sell some but how to decide???

I was watching them pretty much all day yesterday and it baffles me that they spent the whole day almost in that water. It was 56 here yesterday and Coco never covered them to warm them until she took them into the barn late afternoon. I guess all the moving around they do walking with her kept them warm.?.? I know it was sort of warm-ish in the sunlight but it was still chilly. Is that the difference? Moving around creating warmth and being in the sun vs being still in a brooder with a heat lamp? I’ve had ducks for years and it never fails to make me wonder lol
