A Peck of Fun!

The eye peck happened so fast I never saw which one of the girls was the culprit. LOL! Tilly, one of the Dominique, always hops up in my lap or on my back. She didn’t have a vantage point to get my eye. The others - open season on that little black bug I call my pupil. LOL! Lesson well learned by this new chicken parent.

Hi Jill and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us :ya
We are new chicken parents. we purchased 2 Dominique, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Buff Orpington, and one Sapphire Gem. All chicks were about 1 week old at the time of purchase. We built our own coop and run based on looking at what others have built. The girls are happy and growing well. ❤️❤️ I learned one valuable lesson today. Watch out- those little buggers will peck you in the eye. . I suppose one of them thought my pupil was a bug. . I have no clue which one it was, it happened so fast. My eye is super sore but I don’t think it is too bad... After looking at threads of getting pecked in the eye, I find that I am not the only one to have it happen. Live and learn. .
I'm so glad your eye is better. It's really fun to explain to the eye doctor that one of your birds pecked you in the eye. For me, it was a city doc and my culprit was a turkey. The guy worked sooooo very hard to contain his laughter after his expression of total shock.:gig

LOL! As soon as my sweet husband walked in the door I told him the bandage over my eye looked far more dramatic than warranted. He was shocked . I made sure to allow my eye to rest and recover. With cataract surgery and multifocal lenses implanted I did worry about my eye being more prone to damage. Fortunately, no serious damage occurred.
I have no doubt that our eye doctor would have the same struggle to quell laughter as yours. He is a good friend of ours so I am pretty sure I would have gotten a laugh and a comment that if anyone could manage to have such a thing happen, it would be me. To which I would have been compelled to respond that I don’t understand why it happened. I was sure they all love me. BAHAHAHAHA!
