A safe cure for Aspergillosis?!!!

Thor was tested and confirmed has having Asper from his chemistry panels and x-rays in 2016, Thor passed away from complications of the treatment for Asper in November 2018.

Or from the damage done by the Asper, it does irreparable damage to lung tissue.
Was the source of the Asper ever determined?

I know, im unfortunately familiar with the disease on a personal level.
No, we never knew why he got it, it was an unfortunate fluke.

No I don’t think it would do any good at this point considering he died 2 years ago.

I was wondering that have you heard of the combination of Fluconazole and Terbinafine for a possible asper?
My duck is suspected with asper but unfortunately the vets here are not bird specialists. Even the radiologist couldn’t exactly interpret the radiographs.

I’ve hear of vets prescribing Fluconazole but based on everything I’ve read Asper isn’t sensitive to it, by the sound of it Asper could probably grow out of it, it has no effect of Aspergillosis.
Itraconazole, voriconazole and amphotericine B are the most often used in Asper infections, of those three itraconazole was what was prescribed to my gander. Voriconazole wasn’t on the market at that time to my knowledge, it’s available now and is slightly safer than itraconazole but much more expensive.
I don’t have any information about terbinafine but all look around and see what I can find.

Based on this article from 2016 Turbinafine was as effective as itraconazole in the treatment of pulmonary Asper with less adverse effects. http://journalhss.com/wp-content/uploads/JHHS1147-56.pdf

Something you can also try is to get your vets to get advice from whichever veterinary college/university avian/exotIc vets are in your state.
UCDavis was willing to look over a case and advise through a zoom appointment with my vet over another one of my birds recently, you might be able to do the same but you need to ask and sometimes push to do it.
Your vet will have to share their test results and radiographs with the state/UC vets and they can better advise on what’s going on.

@Maryam. definitly try to get your vet to ask the state/college vets about the safety of treating birds with turbinafine, most midications are used off label in poultry/avians so there might not be a lot of information on that but they’ll have a better idea than most.
