A teacher in a bind

I would suggest for a school project, try to find a local source where they don't have to go though shipping. Shipping does such a number on eggs that often hatches can be extreemly poor. It's so disapointing to see kids sad that nothign hatched. One year I brought some chicks to a class wh o had been trying to hatch eggs for 2 months. They were on their 3rd batch and it wasn't looking good.

I agree with finding eggs that are close or at least set a few of yours with them. I sold eggs to several teachers and always amde sure to set my eggs the day before hers so if she wasn't able to hatch any or very few that I would have some chicks she could "borrow" for a few days to weeks.

I have marans available. I've had great fertility rates hatching them here and the weather is cooling enough that I think shipped eggs should do quite well. PM me if you're interested and we can talk about the details.

thats a great idea on starting a batch at home to be sure there are chicks i have sent eggs to local teachers who ended up having problems typical for first timers such as not having the incubator ready it sure is fun though how much the children enjoy hatching 0

I really felt like it was the least I could do. I know how frustrating hatching can be and I know I couldn't stand to have those kids waiting for so long and then nothing.

So far no luck finding anyone close enough to get eggs from, and still insure they have the best chance of hatching. I know there has got to be someone I could get some purebred eggs from nearby.

I really hate to put mine in the incubator and end up finding homes for chickens that might not be wanted or treated well. Is there anyone who can help?

I would take the chance on shipped eggs if you don't have any other options.
Can you see if a feed store would be willing to take them off your hands afterwards if you can't find good homes?
If you can line one up and then order enough hatching eggs then you should get some to hatch.
