for you and

to the owners of the dog!

Did you get pictures of the dog with the chicken? I imagine it would be difficult to remember a detail like that when you're in such a situation, but whatever evidence you can collect will help. Can you approach the dog to tie it up in your yard?

Find out the leash laws in your community, in many places it is illegal to let your dogs roam unleased, even if walking alongside their owner. If that is true in your area, call AC every single time you see these dogs running loose. Try to enlist other folks in your area. A dog that size is a real threat to any child, even to adults. Even a friendly dog can do real harm just trying to be friendly. Put the AC number on your speed dial. Contact your local commissioner. Call the local news stations.

Okay, I'm out of ideas. But in addition, you will have to amp up the security in your coops, which must be difficult to try & keep out a Great Dane. Do they jump your fence, paw their way into the run? Maybe some electric wire around the pens would help.

Here's another

, I'm so sorry.

I was going to take pics of his enormous foot prints in the snow but they are gone already(its snowing like mad here) some of my chickens can get out of the run.I have no idea how they do it but they do.ALL dogs in my town have to be on a leash if they are outside even if in their own yard. These people just let the dogs do whatever and now I find out that there are 8 pups over there! Its gonna be great having 10 GDs in my yard

Saw this info on a ask legal advise, not sure what state, but like this law.

Check your state law, but most you can kill a dog ,killig your animals.

My Neighbor's Dog Has Repeatedly Chased And At Times Injured My Livestock. Can I Kill My Neighbor's Dog?
Yes. If you see your neighbor's dog harassing your livestock, by chasing them or worrying them, you are justified in killing the dog with no liability to your neighbor, so long as your livestock are on your property when they are being harassed. You may also notify the neighbor about their dog's behavior and they will have 24 hours to kill their dog after you have notified them, and if they do not kill their dog you can notify a law enforcement officer who will kill the dog.

This rule does not apply to dogs that are being used to herd cattle under the direction of their owner, or dogs that are being used for hunting or predator control under the direction of their owner.

I'm sorry this happened too ... You'll have to figure out how they are getting out of the run and fix it. Do you let them free range or is the dog only getting the ones that get out of the run?

Well if your not willing to kill the dog, and the law isn't helping, your kinda stuck. Unless you do something you'll keep loosing chickens. Here are some other ideas; your county animal control should have large traps for capturing dogs to loan you. Get one, catch the dog and turn it in to animal control. And file a formal written complaint. If the animal control doesn't do anything, then go to your next county or city counsel meeting and get verbal! You can also write letters to the editor in your local paper with your complaints against animal control not doing their jobs.

Most days they do free rang but some of them can get out on their own before I go out there to open the door.I should get a tazor for this beast.

I remember when I was little seeing my dad chase a dog around the backyard spraypainting it! I thought it was so mean at the time but that dog never came back for another chicken!
