I would love to know what kennel, feel free to PM me.

Maybe they worry that whatever you do with the dog down the road will reflect on their reputation as a breeder and they want to make sure that the dog they sell gets used in a way they like? Just guessing. When I sell horses I match the horse with the person as well. I give them as much information as I possibly can. I tell them bluntly what they can do with the horse and what the horse was not bred to do. Some horses are bred to pull, some jump, etc. Especially when selling an intact male or a mare, I would probably want to know what the person wants to do with them. In the end, I cannot control it because it will be their horse but I can be picky in the people that contact me about said horse. I hope this made sense.

IME, there are a lot more of those breeders than you may think. I have breeder friends who've done it, or similar. In the rescues I have been involved with, quite a few breeders have stepped up to the plate when one of their dogs was discovered in need, cross country.

I myself went through a six month ordeal with buyers who had misrepresented themselves and did everything I told them not to when raising the dog. They were in remote Canada, and they were telling me the dog was aggressive to all other animals and humans. They threatened to kill her if I didnt arrange for her to be gone immediately. Its quite a saga, but I ended up having to have her housed temporarily there until the weather was good enough to fly her (the roads are impassable there in the winter) into the states. I would have driven the 36 hrs to get her, but I dont have a passport. After boarding and flight fees, I ended up paying over $1000 to get her back, a dog who was supposedly vicious and that I knew I may have to keep myself forever, or at least spend some extensive time rehabbing. I did it because I KNEW this dog wasnt the monster they made her out to be. The interim home confirmed it, she had simply been mistreated. She came home to me and after a few weeks of evaluation, she went to a home where she very successfully guards a myriad of animals and small dogs and loves people.
I took another one back when her mom had health problems and could no longer care for her. I was planning on making the 18 hr trip for her since her mom couldnt drive, but a friend had to go down there so she was kind enough to tote her home for me.
I placed both of these girls for free to their new homes, BTW. This is not an uncommon occurence among the breeders I know.

Yoie, beautiful dog! I have only seen one English shepherd in the state I live in..as far as I know at least. Sounds like exactly the type of breeder I will want when I start looking for working ACDs.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything except the laws part.

But everything else is right on the money.

the laws I have a problem with because who will make the laws? Beauraucrats that dont know squat about dogs.

and if you don't like their stipulations, you are free to go to someone else. It's as simple as that.

Or if you really want the dog, just tell the breeder what they want to hear..

As of the date and time I am typing this the buyer and seller have a choice. In a free market society when someone puts too many restrictions on a product whether it be a companion animal or a regular dog there will always be someone to fill the niche... always. The overly obsessive breeders are shooting themselves in the foot, they are creating this niche market with over priced dogs and or restrictions that control after the sale.

As for laws you cannot restrict free trade and like it or not when you put a price on anything it becomes free trade dog or cat or chicken it is all the same.

If you put animals on an even keel with humans than I really am wasting my breath and all bets are off as I believe common sense is not a factor anymore, you cannot reason with someone that has that stuff in their head.

Red, as usually you are spot on.

Just one more question, then I'll let this all drop.... I've vented, and I'm glad that at least some of you agree with me.

What is the "P" word?
