Oh My LORD. SHE is way too cute! Im with you on the slow painful death thing. I have heard you can put used motor oil on mange to kill it. "id be afraid of that though" Please let us know how the trip to the vet goes!

I'm sure your vet will do a skin scrape and I wouldn't be suprised if she didn't come up with more than one problem on her really. I've seen allergic reactions to food even look similar to that. I, personally, haven't seen mange look like that, but it could be. Just keep her warm and well fed til Monday & she'll be hundreds of times better of than yesterday!

I'll never understand how a person can dump an animal. It's simply beyond me.

I'm off to bed - my laptop battery is going low and I have to get up with Daisy in a couple hours to take her out to do her business. Thanks for all the well wishes - I'll let you know her diagnosis.

Sarcoptic mange is now treated mostly with Ivermectin. I think it's injected every 2 weeks for 1 to 4 times.
You can also still use the Paramite dips and lime sulfur dips.

All the other pets if exposed should also be treated with Ivermectin.
Revolution treats sarcoptic mites as does the heartworm medications Sentinel and Interceptor. Those are especially used for any of the breeds that may have collie or aussie or shetland sheep dog in them because they cannot be exposed to Ivermectin.

The mite will get on human hosts but does not stay and goes away on it's own since the "host" isn't compatible with the mite and it can't complete it's life cycle on humans. It is very itchy though while it's there, and you'd have to wash all bedding and anywhere the infected dogs have been. Also collars, harnesses etc.

Good luck and hopefully it won't be as bad as it looks!

...i have this book..first aide for cats and dogs..and it gives descriptions of differant types of skin infections...hope it helps you some!..
BACTERIAL INFECTIONS: red bumps or pimples, bull's eye sores, scabs, redness, flaky skin, a patchy moth-eaten coat.

DEMODEX(MANGE): circular or patchy hair loss with bald patches showing red to grey skin, usually around the eyes and muzzle, which aren't painful or itchy;may spread over the whole body with bumps and crusts and swelling of feet.

RINGWORM(fungus): crusty circular area of hair loss, usually first on the face and front legs.

SCABIES(SKIN MITES): itching, scaling, hair loss, crusty skin, rancid odor.

SEBORRHEA: thick dandruff or a greasy, smelly coat.

YEAST: itchy skin,redness, dandruff, thickning of skin,greasy coat, rancid odor.

It also says a cool oatmeal bath, like Aveeno will help soothe her skin.(or you can make your own), until you can get her to a vet... This is soo nice of you to help her...and pay a vet bill also.....thank you for helping her!!!!

Oh she is very pretty. I hope you are able to get her well soon. My parents took in a stray dog a year ago and they also named her Daisy.

People who do that, deserve the same thing done back to them! Take the jerk out in the boondocks and dump him off.

I'd say just do what you are doing until you see the vet - quarantine from other animals, and a little TLC. Be sure to wash up well after handling her yourself - even change clothes before handling your other dogs in case it is something easily transmitted.

I second, third and fourth the opinion of sarcoptic mange, (the bald knuckles on her toes, use ivomectin sub cutaneously) and ringworm on the raised circular spots. I have used Thrush-X on a little min pin before and it cleared it right up in one application. It was nowhwere as bad as what this puppy has, might take a bit more. The ivomec injections will cure the worms in her belly too. A little frontline and a few Paramite dips as someone else suggested and she will be good to go. She has a real sweet look to her face. Looks like a keeper to me and I am really choosy about what strays stick around here.
