abnormally large 2 week old chick

2 weeks ago I bought 8 chicks from TSC and was ecstatic that I was able to get 2 Leghorns. They were the same size when I got them but now one is very large, her crop is almost always full. Its not hard nor too soft and I have seen it empty a few times. She waddles quite a bit and her feathers are very slow coming in compared to the rest of the chicks. She mostly just sits in the corner of the brooder, but is really friendly she will come when we tap at the side of the brooder.

Should I be worried or is this seem like a normal thing? This is my second time raising chicks from TSC, last year we purchased 6 and they all had no problem. Just looking to see if anyone else has had this happen and if so how did it turn out. Thanks

From looking at it, looks like you may have 1 leghorn and one Cornish X. This year Tractor Supply, at least the closest one to me, had while leghorns and Cornish X and the only difference was the size. Not saying you have one of each, but it looks that way.

I agree, you have a meaty to go along with your layer. They are two different breeds altogether.

I had a feeling she was a meat bird. Iwas just worried something was wrong with her. I may keep her and see how long she lasts, shes my daughters favorite chick. Thanks for the imput.

They can be incredibly sweet. I had one who fell off of a Tyson truck. She laid HUGE eggs and would sleep in the dog house with him.

She would be ready to hang out with us any time of the day or night. She lived with us for about ten months but they were happy months. When she would run, she looked a lot like Godzilla! LOL!!

I plan to get a few more and see how things go. I do believe that Lucky (the hen) lived so well because of the fact that she was free-ranged.

I have a very large delaware week old chick. I also have a brahma and a welsummer and she is twice the size of them. The large one sits down alot so it feathers are all matted on it's belly and she's always panting. I keep thinking she's going to die soon but its been 4 days and she's still kickin'. She eats alot and drinks and I am starting to wonder if she's slightly order? Or maybe she's a meat bird? But why is she always panting and laying down? Does she have ascites aka "water belly"?

Thats a meat bird, a cornish cross. They have a short and hard lifespan

If she is panting she is too hot. It appears that you need a heat reduction in your brooder. Solid sides interfere with good ventilation. Using a much smaller watt bulb might help.

I am afraid that you may have a broiler chick on your hands.
