Hi my friends,

So, I’m still very emotional about losing my beautiful baby duckling this morning, and I got the lockdown incubator cleaned and ready for my 34 day old.
Upon candling for the last time I now see this bruise that was not there on Monday.
I can’t win!
Obviously, yet another baby is malpositioned and I don’t know if I can go through this again. 😢
All who have been following me know of my struggles.
What now???

Thank you all,
Amy

Amy I gave you full instructions on how to hatch this baby on your other post
Bruising needs a safety hole immediately
They can’t get air
Make the small hole then leave that egg alone for 24 hours
Don’t take it out for any reason. After 24 hours make the hole a bit bigger ( dime size ) see the beak is there then leave it be another 24 hours
Don’t open the bator or chip any shell off before then
Last time you took to much to soon and he was able to push up
This time have lots of patients

Yes,
She never went broody, no matter how hard we tried she just scattered her eggs and laid them everywhere!
We would put them in her brooder box and she’d kick them out!
She’s only 9 months and this was her first time laying.
She started on January 23rd and just stopped a week ago! Ugh!
OK. I wasn't sure if you were aware of but there's no reason to incubate every single egg, especially if it's the 1st time laying. Usually young duck or chicken eggs don't do as well as a seasoned layer. ❤️

My apologies, very busy day!
We are trying to grow our flock and would like to have about 12 Muscovy’s. 2 females to each drake I believe is correct.
After this batch we are hoping she’ll go broody the next time.
Incubating staggered ages of eggs is VERY stressful.
We plan to have our female looked at by a vet very soon, as I want to make sure she is healthy and ask about why there was issues with all her eggs.
If she starts laying again I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do.
I’m one of those people who try to save everything! I’m a rescuer/rehabber as well.
We absolutely love animals of every kind. ❤️❤️❤️
She's young. There's a reason why people say not to hatch eggs from young layers. They have kinks to work out.

Good morning,

Made a very small safety hole and nothing is happening.
Today is day 35.
So that’s definitely a bruise and it’s definitely malpositioned?

I can’t believe this is happening AGAIN!
What’s going on here? 😢
This baby will take 48-72 hours after the safety hole
So dont rush this process
Yoy shouldn’t see anything for a few days
As long as air can get in the baby will now breath and absorb

@AmyA248
Please don’t rush this baby out
He will need help yes but not yet
It hasn’t been 72 hours it’s been less then 48
You can’t count a day as a whole 24 hours
Wednesday at 1:30 pm my time was your post about the bruise. It’s only Friday at 7:40 am here now that’s only 42 hours
The hole he has now is all he needs until ready to hatch
You don’t need to pick more shell
Take a flashlight on the side of the egg around 50 hour mark you should be able to see veins through the shell
So 8 more hours
If you see any veins wait another 3-4 hours ti look again
Keep doing this until the egg looks clear of all veins then start the assist

Okay, if it was three days ago that you made the safety hole, I think we need to slowly begin the full assist.
@New duck mommy 2021 its time to open the hole to the size of about a dime, right?
No she made this original post wed at 1:30 pm
That not even 48 hours ago
Amy please just leave the baby be to absorb
Yoy are trying to rush things
I just had 2 assists myself and I made a small hole and My babies did not make the hole bigger
Mine sat left to absorb
One was 56 hours after safety hole
Other was 60 hours.
They were ready
No bleeding. No yolk and no cords
The smaller the hole the less bugging you do. They don’t dry up
I was able to candle the front of my egg and see the veins were gone before I helped them out
