ACK!!!! Gustav

Trucks tanked up. Generator on its way from Houston, because we cant find any here at home. 40 extra gallons of gas. Now what do I do with all these chickens??? That's what's freakin' me out most!

Don't think that'll hold about 200 chickens, but it's a thought. I'm thinking more the horse barn. I'm going to lose my mind..........

Thank goodness DH is home this time around with the Big Nasty aiming for us here on the Gulf Coast. He was in Baton Rouge working and helping with the aftermath of Katrina when Hurricane Rita hit two weeks later. We barely had time to prepare ourselves.

During Hurricane Rita, I was flying home from LAX and saw the line of cars on all three of the major highways exiting Houston. After a 3+ hour ride on an airplane from LAX to IAH, it took me 3 hours to go 16 miles to get home. It was a mad dash to get ready for Rita after watching everything that happened from Katrina.

Because of all the releaf efforts for Katrina victims, supplies like generators, etc were next to nothing, but we managed to get one generator (seemed like the last one) before the Rita hit. What a nightmare, but at least we are armed for bear this year.

Although last summer was harder on the East Coast, I think it is the Gulf Coast turn this year.

DH did the grocery shopping, checked the generators, gas up the cans, and purchased extra shavings and feed. If our camper trailer doesn't take a direct hit from a tree, we will have a place to sleep with a/c this go around. We have a 55 gallon gas drum from Rita that I hope we do not have to fill up, but we will if we need to.

I have my fingers crossed for everyone with big flocks.

You guys up north need to send us a freak of nature cold front to push this monster WAY south of Brownsville!

Batton down the hatches... it's going to be big where ever it hits!

Hope it misses you Sem. We are sooooo soggy here...rain in the form of major down pours every day this week...keeping my fingers crossed for you and everyone else along the path that is will turn and go back to sea and dissipate

My favorite place , I think, would be the Smokey Mountains in Tenn.
However, living in LI NY for 25+ years, and shoveling driveways, esp the last one which was 200 feet long gravel, and raking 3 weeks worth of leaves every fall, I just got tired of it. But snow would be fun to visit, esp being in NYC at Christmas time during a snowfall!

This area, north of Tampa, has not gotten a direct hit in over 20 years or more. I know that doesn't mean much, but it makes me feel a bit better. This year we have a motor home, so we can live without electric for a while if necessary

You lived in LI??? I didn't know that. Now I know where that sharp whit came from.

Just go outside and yell at the sky. Do you still have your NY accent? If so you'll
scare the storm away.

Yes, I still have the accent, LOL, but 80% of the people in this area have it too.
Yea, born and raised on LI. 20 minutes from Port Jefferson, you know, where the Bridgeport ferry goes.
