I have been giving her Layer Feed. My husband doesn't want to do the chicken thing, but I do have a couple friends who do that I could take her to. I'd like to have her around our yard, but I don't really want to commit to a flock either. She seems really great on her own, but I'm sure she'd enjoy company.

You know, two chickens really isn't that bad! The coop they would need is really small, they wouldn't eat much, you'd get an egg for you AND your honey bunny, and it would indeed be nice for your rouge chicken to have a companion :) She looks like a classic Easter Egger (which is a type of "mutt breed") with her poofy cheeks and beard and confirmed with a blue/green egg. I hope you guys do keep her and get a companion and proper housing for her. There are lots of examples of small coops here on BYC. Hope to see posts from you in the future!

We have a coop! I finally talked my husband into committing by finding a killer deal on Facebook Marketplace for a coop with two large laying boxes and a 6 ft run for $50. Hard for him to say no to that! You can't see her, but she's already in the coop, chattering away. The run is coming later this week. I have a photo showing the whole operation together and boy, I was fooled by how small it looks! It is a decent sized operation!
Though she seems to have taken to the coop, I've seen suggestions to keep her closed in for a couple days to let her know to come back, but do I need to if she accepted it so fast? I'm sure she will be happy to not sleep in a tree anymore.

Hi and welcome!

I'm taking notes from your posts on your semi-feral chicken's behavior so I can apply it to the capture of the (possibly mythical) chicken that (may or may not) exist in the woods behind my house.

Best of luck on fighting the slow descent into becoming a crazy chicken person like the rest of us. We are glad to have you!

Your chicken is lovely!

We have a coop! And she seems quite happy about it. I still can't get near to her, though. I have been using food trails to get her to see the things I want her to see. Super cartoonish, but has worked so far!
