Acres Poultry hatching thread with aliciaplus3!

Can’t wait to follow along.

do you find you don’t need anything on the brinsea for hatching since it’s textured on the floor?
I add cheap textured shelf liner from the dollar store to make it easier to clean.
Recently I have been hatching in the 360 because the number of eggs going into lockdown was not as high but this time I have eggs in lockdown in both the brinsea and 360.
The brinsea has a 2 layer lid that unscrews so you can clean the brains. I dont usually have to do that very often. I like to get babies out as soon as possible so right now I have a styrofoam bator set up to move them into until they are ready to move to the brooder. I like that because I Hate watching them play soccer with the eggs, too many have not hatched because they got pip side down in my opinion.

Thanks!

I usually take them out quick, but then for a couple of reasons, a mostly overnight hatch, and my toddlers birthday, they all stayed in for 24 hours. That incubator is a MESS. Argh.

We have been setting eggs late Saturday so the successful ones tend to hatch overnight saturday... unfortunately it means I am asleep if something needs help. And I am still fighting too high of humidity in my turkey eggs... or something cuz we lost 18 turkeys from lockdown till this morning. Some died around lockdown others piped and drowned and a few got cemented in their shells on the way out. Sigh not a great hatch. Did manage a few marans! Some of those are due later today so I am still hoping for a decent hatch on those.

Ok not the best pics but we now have 4 turkeys and 6 chicks chilling in the brooder!

another 2 turkeys and 4 chicks(1nn!) In the incubator drying off. Not a complete bust but for as many eggs as went Into lockdown not so good

the holes are where I opened up to see what was going on... about half died a day or so after lockdown the others either didnt internally pip or if they did they drown or couldnt progress because of goo.... a few made it as far as an external pip and then became goo-ed in .
Will be keeping a closer eye on humidity for these big eggs

just scavenged my first chinease knockoff incubator to use the "brains" to turn my new auto turner. I found one that lays the eggs on their sides and turns them similar to the incuview? but with rollers instead of a grid moving across a surface...

the only issue i found is that it is not a plug and play. meaning it has to have a brain to tell it when to turn otherwise it just sits there and turns continuously. we will see if this "briliant" idea of mine works... maybe not as the dumb thing keeps screaming at me that the temp and humidity are off... well yeah I unplugged the sensors! oy

Midget Whites. For three years Tommy has followed me around the yard until he gets a hug; then he's off strutting with the hens.

Interested to see how well that turns them.
