image.jpg Cocoa, my 2 yo hen, was walking around kind of lethargic in the run yesterday night. I took her in the house to soak her for egg binding but now I’m having second thoughts about egg binding. Symptoms: not eating much.
Won’t drink.
Eats a lot of egg shells.
Won’t sit down.
Lethargic.
Floppy comb.
White bubbly poop with egg white like consistency.
Won’t move.
Groaning sounds when she breathes.
Swollen abdomen.
Sleepy.

I'd give her 1 Calcium Citrate tablet now, then once daily for a few days.

Work on hydration and see that her crop is emptying.

Hopefully she will be able to expel the egg soon.

She is still alive this morning, but her crop won’t empty. She sat down for the first time last night and her abdomen is no longer swollen, but no egg. She is eating a little better and had some sugar water. She is pooping watery poo and normal poo. The normal looking poop smells bad too. No idea what’s happening. I’ll try the calcium tablet to see if that helps.

She may have laid internally. It's good that she's able to poop.
Work on the crop symptom. Get the calcium into and keep her hydrated.

Do you have any antibiotics on hand? If so, what do you have?

I have Liquamycin oxytetracycline injection and Corid soluble powder coccidiostat. Can I use those?
