Acting weird

I'm glad she was doing better by last night. Hopefully it's just the egg laying thing and you'll be getting a beautiful new egg soon!

Chickens Really, isn't yogurt considered a dairy product? I can understand cheese upsetting their stomachs though. Is yogurt a treat for them or just something given to settle a specific ailment?
Yes, yogurt is dairy....Not to start a debate but the best thing is to give a probiotic...People do feed yogurt as a treat but I never do...Chickens do not process dairy and people think if a Chicken is sick to give them yogurt?

Cheers!

No no no. I was definitely not trying to start a debate. My apologies if it sounded that way! I'm rather ignorant when it comes to chicken nutrition and I'm just trying to learn stuff. We have had a chick and a hen in the past month with poopy butts. My wife claimed she had read to give them yogurt, so we did and the problem cleared up immediately. So now I'm wondering if it is a cure or a coincidence. We haven't given it as a treat but I know they gobbled it down like they loved it.

I did not mean a debate with you....I meant with anyone....You can purchase a Probiotic for Birds....
Chickens eat lots of stuff....
Best thing is to feed an age appropriate diet and treat at 5% of daily ration....

Cheers!

If you're worried about illness....check their poop. Walk around behind them if you have to until they go and see what it looks like. There's a "normal" poop chart on here somewhere which is a wide range of normal images. I'm new too and I'm having to deal with my first illness in 3 new birds I just purchased a week ago. I know how crazy it can make you LOL...worrying all the time about them. Keep reading and posting!

Good luck :)

Pullets approaching point of lay can act very weird......what you are seeing sounds pretty normal to me.

Thank you everyone who has posted it really reassures me she's ok and it really means a lot that so many of you wish my babies the best.

This morning she was out with the rest of the flock walking around and everything the the group of girls I think will be laying soon were all in the coop including my EE. She went in and it kinda looked like she was squatting a little shorter than she usually stands and she had her eyes closed. She then came out , no eggs anywhere, and stood around with her eyes closed again. I picked her up to check her vent which looked normal and she doesn't seem in pain or anything but she doesn't seem to care if I pick her up as much(she still tried to fly away when I es done inspecting). And everyone else seems fine. Should I put them on probiotics as well as electrolytes?

I would just do the probiotic....Clear cold water always is the best....

Cheers!
