Acting weird

Her crop still seems full of water and I keep seeing her drinking, if she was eating but still drinking a lot would I be able to feel any food or just water?. She's been putting herself to bed earlier than the others. I'm worried this is a crop issue. I'm going to get up before they get up in the morning (because I don't have a pop door on the coop just a door cut into it so when they get up they can freely come out) so I can check and see if her crop feels empty before she can eat or drink anything. I've never dealt with something like this does it still seem like a dietary issue or something more? Thanks for any input!

A few weeks ago one of my barnevelder hen had a large squishy crop. Eventually I caught her to feel it. The minute I did water started coming out of her mouth. Against advice, I held her head down and worked the water out, eventually she started to aspirate and I put her down to cough and shake the liquid out of her lungs. I caught her a bit later, and felt her crop, it felt full of seed and rock, so I gave it a gentle massage and released her. The next day caught her again and her crop was empty. She has steadily improved since. They say don't work the water out because they can aspirate and die, but I figured she was a goner without help. I took it slow and watched her for signs of trouble. Sounds like your hen has something similar. I let mine go about a week before stepping in and I'm glad I finally did. Definitely get a hold of her and see what is going on.

So you think I should try to vomit her if in the morning it's still full? Was your hen acting like mine? I'm willing to try anything I'm not afraid to do something if it will save her from whatever happens if I just let her try to sort it out herself. Is there anything I could do before I try to vomit her because I don't want her to aspirate? Thank you and do you have any idea what could've caused your hen to get the squishy crop or what it's called so I can sort it out and prevent if from happening again?

No clue why my hen got an enlarged crop except it seemed like it got plugged up. She was looking sick and hanging by herself, and her crop kept enlarging and hanging low.

What I did was pick her up and was just feeling her crop and liquid started coming up, so I went with it, I really don't want nothing bad to happen with your hen, so do it only if you think it's the right thing as far as working out the liquid. I put my hens head down and squeezed softly on her crop. I think after the liquid was out I gently massaged the solid content and dislodged whatever was keeping things from flowing through. So definitely gently massage her crop. I actually read about it on this site.

thank you for this info. This morning about 20 minutes or so after they were out I felt her crop and it was not full of water but definitely felt like doughy or a stiffer squishy texture, not like water, but wasn't completely full. I couldn't tell if it felt like feed grains but it wasn't water. She still seems to be acting normal and I'll definitely go ahead and massage her crop and see if that'll dislodge whatever's in there, it couldn't possibly hurt her if it already dislodged itself or if there's just food in there. Thanks again!

Edited to add: last night after dark I checked in them all because I thought a turkey was stuck out in the run because it couldn't see and when I checked in there my EE ,
Big Baby, had diahrrea that really stunk. And this morning I could see the shavings under her were wet from her liquid poop all night so I'm pretty sure that's how she got all the water out. If she had something stuck in her crop would she be able to pass the water or do you think this means it was dislodged?

I guess now you just wait and see if it's resolved itself or not. You could do a search of crop problems on here to see if any sound like yours. I believe with sour crop you get a stink coming out of the mouth, and a impacted crop is like what I experienced. If she passed her water she may be doing better. You could catch her again and massage a feel the crop again to see if it emptying. I never use antibiotics in my chickens, so I can't comment on whether it would be warranted. Hopefully it clears up.

So I just got home from my morning class and checked her and her crop seems like there's water in it again but it doesn't seem super full. I massaged her crop for about a minute and I couldn't feel any obstructions. I'll definitely keep researching crop issues. She seems a little tired like closing her eyes standing up but she definitely is acting normal when she walks around, cleans herself and pecks things on the ground. I felt some of the others crops and they didn't feel too different but I could definitely feel grain in the others crops. I'm not sure I want to try and hand feed her because I was reading it could just make the situation worse if it is a crop problem, I'll let her do her thing for now because I'm pretty sure she's eating something... The other day when they got watermelon she was acting the same but she ate the watermelon so I know she was eating.
