I'm addicted too. But I must say, I have shown extreme progress by waiting a full 7 days to candle this time. I'm pretty proud of myself.

It's nice to find people who relate...my husband just shakes his head at me...he doesn't share in my excitement!!! I candle in our walk in closet (darkest place around) and I yell progress reports to him...he seems less than impressed!!!

I'll definately update!

Handling the eggs a lot can destroy the bloom on the eggs which is a natural defense against bacteria not to mention that also if you have residue on your hands it can be left on the eggs too. I try not to handle them too much. I did handle them quite frequently though during my first couple of hatches. I washed my hands a lot with antibacterial soap.

I know exactly what you mean. My husband is pretty good at acting like he cares. LOL! He likes them alright. Never complains when I ask for him to feed or put them up. (When I'm running late getting home, or have to go somewhere.) He helped me construct the "chicken house", which I have secretly dubbed the "city coop". Complete with nesting boxes on the ground.. "So they can reach them better." LOL. I married a city boy.

I've been hatching eggs for more than 20 years and I've never candeled an egg , just never saw any need to do it . what is to hatch will , I pay more attention to humidity .

Yeah, but, for those of us impatient folks - candling gives some early reward!!

And it is kinda cool to see the eggs change.

Candling hasn't changed a thing about what I do so far. Haven't tossed an egg yet because of it. It's just fun to look inside and watch them change/grow!

(I hear ya about the humidity ...
