Yeah, but, for those of us impatient folks - candling gives some early reward!!

And it is kinda cool to see the eggs change.

Candling hasn't changed a thing about what I do so far. Haven't tossed an egg yet because of it. It's just fun to look inside and watch them change/grow!

I havent been able to find a hygrometre for less than $50 here in town, so im winging it a bit with the humidity. And we are having to hand turn the eggs so they are getting handled a bit anyway. This is a first hatch so if i get one chook i will be happy.

But had to have another look tonight, Looks like 9 out of 11. One the shell is quite dark and i cant tell yet, and another it looks like the air sack is moving in the shell, although it does look like something is developing. That was one of the eggs that was dropped when the rooster wasnt happy about me taking the eggs, which may be the cause. But will wait and see on that one.

Was also kinda cool tonight as you could see the first couple in starting to move in the shell

-sigh- I had told myself that I wouldn't candle until day 7. I have been very, very good. I'm at day 5 now. But, reading this thread wants me to go peek.

A couple of my eggs are so dark that I probably won't be able to see much.

Thanks so much! These eggs were actually destined to be eaten, and had been in the refrigerator a day or two. Then, tragedy struck and I lost my entire flock. I brought these eggs to temp, and then stuck them in the incubator. I'm hoping for great hatch rates of PULLETS to get some new hens.

I hope the all hatch, and are all pullets!! Good luck!!

I actually disposed of 4 eggs last night - day 8. 2 white Silkie eggs that were definitely clear and a couple of Ameraucanas; one blood ring (early death) and one with a developing crack that definitely would have become a stink bomb in time!
