adding a rooster?

I have 9 chicks about 8 weeks old and a hen thats laying. I am thinking about getting a rooster, is it ok to introduce a rooster to this flock( is it safe). Or do I have to wait till the others are bigger?

If you get one the same age as them, it should be fine after the initial pecking order thing is done.

I would get a young roo...just a little younger than the littlest chicks you have and add him to the crew. That way they grow up together and no gets hurt

Remember to quarantine to prevent introducing parasites to your current flock

My hens matured about a month after my roosters. So for a month I had to separate my hens from any rooster. The roosters were just too rough and the hens were just not interested. So I'd wait until all your hens were mature (laying) and then look for a rooster.
